In Response to Re: *****OCTOBER PROFIT CHALLENGE THREAD***** : Proper losing day today. Actually ran ok in the FLOPS high roller, not good enough to actually cash, but still respectable 7th. Lost a flip against sikas (I guess since it was against sikas it wasn't really a flip). Nothing going in Omaha either except for a min-cash in a bounty hunter. 1 cash out of 5, daily balance -£22.46, MTD balance +£224.98.

More runbad. First £20gtd PLO first hand I run 3rd nuts into 2nd nuts house over house, second one I make it to heads-up and don't hit a single flop slowly bleeding chips away, only 5 runners so not even a cash. Made a decent run in the now only £500gtd PLO making the most of the few times I hit anything, but I'm not a magician, I can't make cashes out of thin air. Only 41 runners, so who knows how long this tourney will be around. Hope numbers were artificially low due to SPT, but they have been falling every week. Played the FLOPS event which had everything I hate: hold'em, quick structure, rebuys. Managed to hang around for a while with my initial buy-in, but there never was a chance of me cashing. Didn't quite go 0-fer as I had a min-cash in a £5.50 PLO8. I really hope I hit my usual Saturday form as I'm not used to 2 consecutive losing days and I don't like it one bit.

1 cash out of 6, daily balance -£23.10, MTD balance +£201.88.

Well my absence from this thread is conspicuous with not making a profit this month :(.

When I get my cash for points it will be pretty much have me breaking even. I had a shocking downswing on hypers and think I played too many of them, variance hasnt helped either. A lot of my poker performance is down to tempramant, ive bought the mental game of poker and aim to work on many aspects of my game in the coming months.

The saviour has been cash with a couple of very profitable sessions and me finally learning how to three table! I'll be focusing on cash more in November with a few hyper sessions to mix things up. Ive also decided that nl40 is a good place to start with not as many regs and the same cash for points on offer.

MTT performance is also on the way up, had a 11th place and 20th in ME's for october, showing a profit overall. Im waiting to crack my final table duck and cash big. Please let it be the 20k UKOPS BH on monday !

Played mini open last night, down to last 15, shove on the BB from the SB with A2. BB has me slighty covered and calls with 96o. Loving the call - hate the 9 on the flop - 65-35 fav but hey ho this is poker

Cash session started with a few coolers at NL8 and finished break even.

    +£120 ish

Wasn't gonna play again this month, but....

    - It's SPT day, tables shud be easier.

    - It's Saturday, so I can't resist getting smashed.

    - It's the 29th, so I still have 2 full recovery days before next months grind begins.

So I guess I have to update Wednesdays disaster before the session begins. Was gonna leave it until the end of the month but can't now.

    It was vvvv unpleasent.

    Big tilt.

1 and a half pages of losses above £15, including getting 100xbb in pre with J9 (and being good).....

end result was  -150, undoing all the good work from the previous session, and ending any hope of a 1k month.

That's a shocking result after being +800 after 11 days.

    +664.23 for the month.

About 3.5k points, no chance of making 4k so cba to check this exactly.

Hoping to make it much more respectable with a solid session today.

    Sighhhhhhh......

    ------------------------

    Big plans for November !!!

It's official, I hate playing cash on friday nights. Not sure if I've had a winning Friday yet.

Couple of BI's down, most of the damage done by marginal hands like AA and KK, with just a small contribution from JJ.

    Session loss £8.37

    Account £143.93

I still look back and grin. Instantly thought 'I'm not checking this, I'm going for 3 streets'. Won't happen again in a hurry.

Been playing a bit of cash recently, I struggle at NL10 but am very comfortable (and so far profitable) at NL20 and NL30.  Anyone got any ideas why?

Marginal hands like AA and KK??? I wouldn't exactly call the best possible starting hand and the 2nd best possible starting hand marginal hands. You were likely just unlucky, assuming you didn't try to slowplay them.

Well I think you mean sarcasm not irony lol, but yeah it's tricky to see sarcasm sometimes in the written word.

But yeah, never nice. I've been grinding DYMs recently. Had one the other day, I'm chip leader, small stack (still has just under 2k) raises pre, I stick him all in with KK, he calls with 22 and flops the 2 lol. Halves my stack, I bubble shortly after.

LOL I only played you for about 10 mins before you switched tables, I 4bet you with 97 suited at one point because I thought you were on one :P and got a few notes ;)

But seriously this week i'm down £40 on DYMs (normally profitable just having a bad streak) but i'm up £140 on cash.

I really do find NL20 and 30 easier, so maybe my playstyle's just suited against the opponents at this level?

This month i have finished £81.36p in profit plus £5 c4p.

As a purely recreational player i'm very happy with this return.

    Be lucky.

The reason you find nl20 and 30 easier is because you have a higher standard of poker player who wont call you down with marginal hands all the time getting lucky by the river. Its also because you are putting meaningful amounts of money into each pot when you are trying to display strength.

NL4/NL8 is soul destroying and should only be played as an introduction to poker for a newbie to get used to things like position and starting hand selection. If you are still playing nl4/8 after 12 months grinding there either is something wrong with your game or you just wanna play for fun and risk the minimum.
