EvilPingu's Diary (This thread needs a more interesting title...)

edited December 2011 in Poker Chat
In my first few weeks on Sky, I have found that the weakest part of my game (besides being a fish) is my bankroll management. I find it very difficult once I have a few quid in my account to stop myself from playing satellites with 10% of my bankroll, for instance.

Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to do some sort of forum bankroll challenge thread which I update on a daily basis - That way, if I start going on NL8 tables with only £30 in my bankroll, I'll feel stupid if I have to post saying that I've lost half my bankroll in a couple of buy-ins so should hopefully stop me doing it :P

At the time of writing this (Thursday 17th November 2011) after my latest mishaps - "I'm going to satellite into the deep stack tonight, win it, and become uber rich", shortly before busting out of the satellite in 44th place out of around 70, followed by running my 2 pair on an NL4 table into a set of 5's then turning into a fish for the next couple of hours (still made about £1.50 in that session, somehow) - I have a whopping £14.07 in my account. £2.10 of this is set aside for the 2nd round of the Heads Up forum competition, so I effectively have just under £12 to play with at the moment.

Current plan is to play £1.15 DYM's until I have around £25 in my account minimum - In about 80 DYM's at this level, I have won around 65%, so I shouldn't be in much danger of going bust doing this. If, in the next month, I make a decent profit AND don't do anything stupid, I might enter one or two of the Xmas UKOPS events. Would like to enter the main event but doubt that me or my bankroll will realistically be ready for it.

-----------------

Start - 17/11/11, 01:00
Bankroll: £14.09

Most recent update - 30/11/11, 23:56
Bankroll: £47.32
Profit this month: £33.23
Withdrawals this month: £0.59 (Betting profits)
C4P this month: 504

Current targets:
1) £50 by end of November
2) Only play £1.15 DYM's and Freerolls until back over £25 again (+ Forum HU) [Complete]
3) Progress as far as possible in Forum HU competition
---
4) Minimum 70% wins on £1.15 DYMs next month (min. 100 games) - If successful, try moving up to £2.25

i had a similar idea to this but never got round to it, my bankroll management was terrible and played 10% or more a lot when i had a win or wanted to play catch up to what i had lost. Much better these days but still do it now and again.

Maybe get people to just put down how many times in a day they play 10% or more in 1 game and update it daily. That way would be a good way of keeping track how often you do it. And will then be a visual help to make you stop doing it so much.

It's funny, BRM is one of my strongest points... shame I'm just not a bit better on the tables.

So I don't blow my BR in a night, just slowly dribble it away lol

Yea it's true, he's done loads of voiceovers for various TV shows and adverts. Dunno if you ever saw ideal on BBC three but he was the 'voice' of cartoon head on that too.

It's a distant relative, my mums uncle (great uncle), he's half Spanish, which is the reason for my embarressing middle name which I shall not disclose!

    Nug Nug!

Just the one game since thread creation, a £1.15 DYM which I won, but only after being short stacked and all in with A5 vs 99, flop was J62, 3 on the turn, 4 on the river. Doubt I'll be playing much more tonight, too much college work to do :( Will enter the £100 GTD Freeroll at the same time, as I seem to be earning Poker Points quicker than I can use them, but probably won't play anything else other than that.

Only played 4 x £1.15 DYM's today, won 2 and lost 2, so I'm 60p down today because of the rake. Also got knocked out of the 7pm Freeroll, limped with K5 suited as everyone else had limped and I couldn't fold with odds of about a million to one! Missed flop and got to see a free turn card, hit a king on the turn, checked again, not knowing where I was in the hand, hit a 5 on the river to make 2 pair - Think it was top pair and 3rd pair, only losing to KJ or a set - in which case, I'm expecting the person to have raised pre-flop so I think I'm good here. No flush draws around, or any straight draws worth worrying about, ended up all in against someone with a set of jacks, of course...

Won't get as much time as I'd like to play this weekend sadly, out on Sunday (relatives with no internet connection) so hoping I'm back in time for the Sunday Survivor and the Fantasy Freeroll. Plan at the moment is to play as much poker as I can before 26th November when my £1k Welcome Bonus thing runs out, so the more poker points I can get, the better.

So far today, I have managed to get into several 60/40s and get outdrawn - Played 4, won 1, lost 3 so far today. The one that I did win, I had around 6k chips, ended up being favourite twice and doubling the short stack up twice. The only bit of luck I've had today is 8s vs. 9s, 8 on the river to eventually knock that short stack out. Keep trying to make moves against weak players and they just call me anyway with hands that they shouldn't really even be in the pot with (If I get knocked out by someone with A3 calling on an ace high flop again...Grr...)

Also got knocked out of the Super 6 Freeroll by a serial raiser, I eventually got a hand and re-raised all in, only to get called by him, with aces. Still don't believe that he had aces for the other 20 or so hands before that he raised, though. Just one of them nights, hoping if I keep grinding maybe I'll get some luck :)

Seriously, UTG raise and I get 3 callers?

(EDIT: Hand won't copy and paste properly. Blinds 15/30, Raised to 150 UTG with A6 suited, got 3 callers - Pocket 4's, K5 suited, and AK. Flop was 975 rainbow, no bets, 6 on the turn, no bets, 7 on the river, no bets)

For some reason, I love when people call with junk in cash games, but it really, really tilts me in tournaments or Sit 'n' Go's. Love NL4, hate low stakes BH's and DYM's. Think it's something to do with in cash, if they get lucky, I think "Brilliant, I can just reload and eventually be profitable against this guy" whereas in tournaments, I'm almost waiting for them to call with 8 high and flop quads or something.

Ended up winning that game - 2 wins and 4 losses so far for the evening. Will post when I'm finished playing for the night.

My post appears to have vanished -_- Grr.

Despite a slow start (1 win/4 losses), I went on a 5 game win streak to recover and make a small profit today, not sure whether to be pleased that I'm effectively back where I started today, or disappointed that my poor play earlier means I didn't make more. Also entered the 60p Sit 'n' Go BH, great fun but ended up running my 99 into KK. Made a fold with AK Pre-flop (See poker clinic). Great fun and will definitely be entering more of these in the future :)

Brilliant day - Started off with a £1.15 DYM, won that to take my winning streak to 6 (Watch out, Del :p). Had a go at the PLO Freeroll for a bit of fun, found myself in the cash and somehow ended up 18th. Think I played pretty well for a noob, only won £0.85 but think I'm starting to get the hang of Omaha - Especially realising the 2nd and 3rd nuts are not usually good enough. Then the Fantasy Freeroll... Ran like Usain Bolt until heads up where I ran A6 into pocket 6's with fairly even chip stacks, but still picked up £29.50 :D The only disappointment was that I was too busy playing the freeroll and forgot to enter the Sunday Survivor :( There's always next week.

Also set myself the target of:
"Minimum 70% wins on £1.15 DYMs next month (min. 100 games) - If successful, try moving up to £2.25"

Not keen on the idea of moving up a level just because I've got enough money in my bankroll, would rather base it on whether I'm beating £1.15 consistently - Had a bit of a downward swing before starting this thread and now winning just over 64% of the time. Against slightly better opponents at £2.25, I reckon the edge I have at £1.15 would probably be negated, so no point stepping up a level just yet.
