In Response to Re: my account being closed coz i am living in spain?????????? : Under EU law, on-line gambling is legal. However, the European Union made ONE ruling, stating that soverign states cannot overrule EU law, and then promptly made ANOTHER ruling that individual countries can restrict on-line gambling! So, to say that clarification is needed is an epic understatement... Posted by J-Hartigan
If you have a UK bank account, i dont see the issue really, just carry on playing, whos business is it that you live in Spain... Does this mean that if im on holiday in Spain, I cant play Sky Poker? Seems a bit harsh imo

There are Brits who played on Stars whilst at the WSOP who still have there accounts frozen,I doubt Sky would be so draconian, but playing from a banned country is risky even when on holiday.

Its not just the eurozone thats effed up, even in the uk we have differing euro rules. Did you know that if you live in Northern Ireland you cannot watch skypoker on tv as its against the gambling laws, even southern ireland allows access, so we over here cant watch tikay on the tv because thats immoral and sky actively block us, but we are allowed to watch the adult por n channels lol, now that is stupid!

I agree . Don't forget when Sky wanted to block pubs from getting sport from European satelite companies the European court ruled against them and said you had the right to deal with any company so why should the same apply to Spain and poker.

It's a bit more complicated than that!
As it stands, the EU gives member states autonomy over on-line gambling.
While the UK government allows its residents to play poker on any site, regardless of where it's licensed (Alderney, Isle of Man, Antigua, etc.), France decided to "protect" its population by only allowing government-licensed (and taxed) operators into the market. These are the so-called ".fr" sites.
Italy followed suit. These are the so-called ".it" sites.
Spain is next - and others will follow.
It's highly unlikely that we'll see Europe-wide legislation and licensing.
WHAT ! THIS AIN`T RIGHT NOT COME ACROSS YOU ROADENDER ON TABLES YET HOPE WILL DO BEFORE IT`S ENFORCED BUT THORPEY GOING TO MISS OUR CHATS, YOU ARE ONE OF THE TRUE AND RESPECTFUL PLAYERS I HAVE MEET
P.S. Any operator is allowed to apply for a licence in any given country. So, there's no discrimination against certain brands! Posted by J-Hartigan
hi james, if you were playing an ept in barcalona, could you play on sky from your hotel room via your laptop ? i ask because i was sure redmond was playing on sky while he was in vegas, it it just were you are registered or do they block ip addresses ?

If you're registered to a UK address, you should be able to play in MOST countries.
However, when I was in Italy recently, I couldn't access Sky Poker. Clearly, the Italian authorities had blocked all ".com" gaming sites!
Not as bad as turkey where you are just blocked from any gambling sites. Much to my dismay when i had earned the browney points and thought i would sneak in a cheeky primo one night as i am commited on sundays when in the uk LOL

Slightly off topic but I wouldn't risk playing any online poker while in the states now. I know that Stars is blocking all accounts playing from an American ISP regardless of the residence of the person or the reason they are in the States. The USA is now an online gaming blackhole, unless you like horse racing.
