Is there any money at all to be made from folding, limping, checking, calling and waiting for the nuts?

Generally speaking, when playing unobservant opponents, "Tight is right". (insert that's what he said remark, here).
So essentially, we can just wait to get a good hand, bet, and get paid off.

But the problem is when you wait for the nuts every hand and suddenly start betting and raising, good players know you have something, so you don't get any action.

In modern internet pokerz speak, it's what we call "Balancing our range". i.e. making sure we arn't bluffing too much in a spot where we never have a hand, or where our opponents can just go ahead and say "he NEVER bluffs here".
    Hope that helps sir.
P.s. It's also really boring to just wait for the nuts :P GET STUCK IN MY SON!!

Yeah it is boring. I try to mix it up a bit, sometimes I'll re-raise preflop with nothing to see what happens, most of the time everyone folds but I've definitely ended up losing large chunks doing this.

Normally I'd just deposit 20 quid and play for fun, losing it all within a few days. I've literally only this week decided I want to try and make a bit of money instead of just hoping for the best. all strategy threads I read say raise, re-raise and play aggressive. This just doesn't seem to work with me, I am terrible at picking spots to try and be aggressive.

I guess with this thread I was hoping someone would say "yes, playing super tight is the best way to make money" - it's definitely less stressful.

    I'm playing NL 2/4 and 5/10.

Arguments for and against but yeah for sure play tight and win at these levels

If your at a table of TAG’s then you just hope to be on the right side of coolers so pick some softer tables, so if you see me come and join my table )

with cash games this low you`ll find all at least 1 player calling with fish cards and sick when they hit that`s why i don`t play cash that often, normally you`ll see me in mtt deepstack for £2.20, 5000 chips and 12mins blinds

Experience at the tables ftw , lots of players play 'tightish' poker cos they pick there oppos who fish and get paid , dont really think anyone can advise you to play any other way to start with , but when you have lots of notes/poker knowhow through experience then that is when you can pick a style of play to suit.

    Big fat no from me.

    Mostly a tourney player though.

Cash wise it might not be a bad place to start.

God **** it feels so weird calling myself a "reg", i almost wanna laugh at myself :P

Anywho, the best piece of advice i think i could ever give anyone playing poker (who knows the basics) is to Note-Take. ALOT.
I used to play $1/$2 on PokerStars, and refused to use a HUD there. But the one thing i did was note-take as MUCH as i possibly good. Because of it, i could even beat some of the HUD-using reg's on the site. It really is your most powerfull weapon and alot of people under-rate how useful note-taking actually is.

Other than that, tight is right until people stop paying you off sir! :)
    Hope that all helps!!
