The teams on sky are purely because it’s a UK based site and we brits love a nice community spirit feel to things and it’s probably a lot to do with our pub/sports culture. Players outside or this have no clue and frankly do we really care what they think anyway, just beat em init.
The team thing is not for me for now, doesn’t mean you should show disrespect towards it.
Live v Online, all such tosh – it’s well known online players are technically better.
While live players should be better with live tells …….
I for one think the teams are a great idea, and i don't see how being in a team could make a good player bad, surely its the opposite.
I only joined sky in January, i never played online before and only a couple of times live one of my old work colleagues arranged a 50max tournement at a community centre so never in a casino.
I wasnt very good to start with and sort of lost interest abit, but then i joined team 51 and it keeps it more interesting, it brings out the competiness you and it made me want to play more.
On our facebook page we have tips from the likes of Elsadog, SUPERSNEDD, IRISHROVER and JOHNCONNOR, all of whom are very talented and 'winning' players.
Without team 51 i wouldnt of learnt as much as i know now, my sharkscope is finally in profit and im enjoying poker. all through being in a team. without this facebook group i wouldnt be able to communicate with my team members to get advice or to rail me when im on a FT.
How about Sky Poker players agree to make a 2012 New Year's Resolution: "In 2012, Sky Poker players of all levels will go out and smash up tournaments up and down the UK. GUKPTs, local casino tourneys, even the game against your family at the kitchen table." Stick it in their eye, I say. Posted by Sky_Dave
thats abit aggressive Dave for sum1 who works for sky, have you been CRB checked

WHEN I PLAY AGAINST FAMILY AN FREINDS IT NORM GETS STUCK UP THEIR JACKSY
I rekon if we play as many live events as we can, GUKPTS, UKIPTs, WPTS (in yoyos case), and local casino events, we can really show them who sky poker are. We have some good players on sky with the ability to shake up the poker world.
P.S. Dave do you know when VIVA LAS VEGAS will be starting again.

I'm with you on this one Dave - Lets all stand up and be counted
January the 1st, somebody who is commited should start a thread for "Live poker winnings" when people have cashed at their local casino games/tour events (I suppose SPTs shouldn't count as 90% of the field are sky players) then see how much we can make by the end of the year (I think £1m is a good target)...

im up for this. I dont think 1m is possible unless a sky player run mega deep at WSOP
i think you are all missing the point, its human nature to be part of a pack. when those local hillbilly take the mick they do it as part of that local pack, team if you like.they don't like others peeing on their patch.ie taking the cash back to their cave.its good to be part of a pack or team, for the times when you take a bad beat, you will always have the support of other pack members to pick you up. far better to be a part of a understanding team then a lone wolf with a big bark and no bite.
In Response to Re: The "Sky Joker" : Although it pains me to say it, I think you could be right as far as the live events are concerned. Its great fun online and it can be great fun also if you like the banter at these events. I'm proud to represent TPT but i'm seriously thinking of attending incognito, back to my "Suited & Booted" ways for the Newcastle event just to see if I can get an edge. Posted by POKERTREV
I replied to the OP last night, after I finished the Live Show, & did not have time to address the somewhat acerbic & sour criticism of the Community team ethic.
Personally, I am a little busy to get too involved in the Teams, but that's not to say I do not think they are a splendid part of our Site, & VERY important - I don't know any other Site that does this, & I'm immensely proud when I see all the Team stuff.
Each Team seems to have their own Website, &/or Facebook Page, too. I don't get access to these EXCEPT to Team 51, who kindly allow me Members privileges, so I see what they get up to.
It's a thing of beauty. They help each other along, have a "Railing Plan", (PRO - Professional Railing Organisation!), organise teach-ins, educate each other with tips, articles, & stuff, keep a Leaderboard of cashes, have Team-based evenings, support Sky Poker players - be they Team 51 or not - who are unwell, ill, or enduring bad times. I don't know for sure, but I would imagine ALL the Sky Poker based Teams do similar things. And if they are proud enough to wear Team gear at SPT's, good luck to them, who are anyone else to mock?
What's not to like?
If people want to be sour & diss that, well too bad. Each to their own, & let's have a bit of respect for others, eh?

I agree with all of this, but the OP was about the view of Sky poker players OUTSIDE of the Sky community.
If people don't care what others think, then this whole thread is pointless...
i think charles , the only way people from outside sky will be influenced are by results and results only. what colour t shirts they have on are irrelivant. i played in the nuts national finals and won the southern region and went up to stoke for the grand finals. i wore my tkp t shirt both times (i did wash it inbetween) and i did get asked and i told them straight, "it a team i play for in sky poker" tbf 90% of the people i spoke to had nothing but good things to say about sky. the likes of julian thews article in the poker magazine helps as he is a well known and liked player getting good results. as long as the players dont abuse the sky name , i cant see anything wrong. phil
