Who's behind the desk in the Sky Poker studio this evening? Expect to see James, Carlo, Carlo's moustache and our special guest star...

Tony 'penguin7' Stroud

(A penguin, yesterday)

Tony's a member of Team Sky Poker. His achievements, courtesy of the official TSP thread, are as follows...

"9 main event wins on Sky including one Primo and Sky Roller. Second 4 times in the old Elite50 tournament. Runner up when invited to play Primo in studio in 2010. Qualified for Viva Las Vegas in 2010, and lasted till day 4 of main event, for $19,000. Cashed at SPT final at DTD 2009 in tenth. Finished 2nd at SPT Luton 2010. Won a pot once against Dan Brown. Won a £1000 gtd tournament on Sky on five consecutive days."

He's clearly a bit good at the pokers! I'm sure Tony would love to answer your questions about his trip to Vegas last year, being a contender for the Total Player crown and general queries about playing No Limit Hold'em and driving coaches.

We'll also be talking SMALL BALLING...

Min-raises, 1/3 pot c-bets, auto-checking the turn, etc. Is this your style of play? What are the pros and cons of pot control? Is this the best strategy to counter amateur players who rely on high variance?

wtf was this the same tourny 5 days in a row? Or was he entering multiple 1k gtds (was there even more than 1?)

    How many runners?

    That's insane.

    -------------------------

Whats the key to getting through sky fields in the 8pm main events?  I would consider myself better than most players who enter skys 8pm main event fields, yet I have only made 1 final table in 2 years, finishing 4th on that occasion.

I must be doing something wrong, does Tony have any ideas what that might be??????

Hi Tony, Carlo & James, if you can find a spot could you sneak in a little Omaha hi-lo talk? As Tony is really good at the game it would be nice to take the opportunity and promote it to the tv audience. Every little helps.

pot control is something i was never good at. However according to Dohhhh i have a leak i think could be answered within this. When im not sure where i am OOP on the river ill often check call. Now this obviously comes with mixed results, as i allow bluffs to bet, but obviously they dont always have a bluff and actually have it. What would tony's opinion on check calling the river be?

The evidence here would seem that you are NOT better than most players who enter ;)

    Evening guys,

Looking forward to a great show tonight.

Small balling is certainly a good way or reducing the luck element of the game. I know Negreanu definitely advocates the use of this strategy and it does help to dodge the mines in large fields, but then he is slightly better than me when it comes to post flop play....

That's a mighty impressive 'CV' ya got up there Tony, not least of which a cash in the WSOP ME.

Have a great show guys, especially Penguin who is one of the players and people I respect most on the site.

Talking of Newcastle, I've had some great nights out up there.  I remember one night cowering under the cover of a pub umbrella in the middle of a torrential thunderstorm like a soft southerner, watching a group of lovely ladies skip by wearing not much more than a smile screaming at each other 'Hurry up, I want to tash on!'  I have no idea what this means.

    Hi boys,

Just a quick one tonight. One of the hands you've just recently shown had a big blind check pre-flop I think it was with KJ suited. As is obvious you bet to gain information - would this be something you would do more often than not if it is only called round to you pre?

I suppose it keeps the pot size low going in to the flop so isn't a bad shout if you haven't got a great hand but then you don't really know where you are. In the big blind though you are either the first or second player to bet so maybe it isn't really an optimal position to be in? I have been guilty of doing this before on tables with no big aggressors before I improved my game so would be happy for some feedback. I can't imagine it is something you can say will be right or wrong in 100% of cases mind you.

Changing the subject with cash and bankroll management is it advisable to only have 5% of your bankroll in play at any one time per table or over the number of tables you are playing on? So if 2 tables you would use 2.5% of your BR on each?

Great show boys, top tash Carlo!

i wanted to ask carlo if he thinks aggression is a major part of being succesfull in todays game?  it seems to me that the better players you play against now apply constant pressure making games harder than they were 10 years ago when players didnt play such a wide range of hands

RE comedy analysis from players at live tourines.

Last 9 of the GUKPT 6 Max the other day.

Guy raises pre on the button and the BB flat calls.

Flop comes A 7 7...BB checks...BTN bets...BB goes all in and BTN calls

    BB AQ and BTN AK

    turn 2....river Q for the 3 outer

After the hand was over...the BB who just hit the 3 outer said 'yh I thought you had AK...I went all in tho cos on that flop I could also hit another 7 for insurance to chop'.

    Live poker is amazing.

yeah that decision by the Vic to go 4+3 rather than 7 handed FT was probably one of the most ridic I have ever seen in a tournie.

You're probably right.  As I said in the phone in I couldn't see the second all in being much that A9 played well against and I didn't want to give a cheap triple up.  Obviously I was wrong on this occasion.  Out of interest what would be the bottom of your calling range for the two all ins?

And congrats to Diamond on the win again.
