Thursday's live show with James & tikay (***OFFICIAL SHOW THREAD***)

Hi there!

We're live on channel 865 (from 8pm) and Sky Sports 4 (from 10pm) with continuous coverage of the £5,000 Sky Roller and the £15,000 Sky Sports Bounty Hunter.

And, as I firmly believe that plagiarism saves time, I'm "borrowing" an idea from the forum and inviting you, for one night only, to...

ASK TIKAY

Beginner, intermediate or accomplished player - please pick Tony Kendall's brains and exploit his expertise! Please try to restrict your questions to the genre of tournament poker (i.e. keep the trivial queries about trains, motorways, aviation and building materials to an absolute minimum).

As usual, e-mail skyopen@bskyb.com or post in this forum thread.

hi james and tikay i have a question for tikay well its for new customers and people who play for fun they say u shouldnt play on a cash table with any less of 5 per cent of your nuy in so 4nl u should have £80 right but for a new person who has just made a deposit of say £20 what would be tikays advice on what to play as u havent got the bankroll to play any cash tables because at 4 nl with £20 u are using 20 per cent of your bankroll  i had a really good week may i say i made a deposit of £20 and turned it into a monkey within a week by playing small mtts so it can be done u can win big by putting a small stake of your bankroll thanks guys have a great show

Good evening Gentlemen. My 'Ask Tikay' question is, as someone who enjoys tournament poker I can't seem to get a grasp on what my goals  should be if playing cash. For example I wouldn't sit down as I don't really have a plan. In a tournament I know that I want to keep my stack rising as the blinds go up and to gain a big enough stack to be able to make the latter stages and hopefully go on to win. I find this structure enjoyable and I can see my way through the game. In a cash game it seems like there is no end and no advancement so I expect I would get impatient. I haven't really played any cash yet due to this inability to find a strategy. I will always play tornaments as thats what I love but I assume I will need to start playing cash to improve my game. Hope the question isn't too long. Best wishes. Shaun the Villa fan in Bham

I am hoping to play an SPT event in 2012 for the first time.

From one of the recent threads on SPT events, I remember a comment from a poster in a similar situation, playing his first live event regarding 'etiquette'. Essentially, I need to be educated with some of the 'etiquette' that goes with playing live as opposed to online.

Can Tikay give an explanation as to what this really means as I'm sure there are certain things you should and shouldn't do playing live but would like to know these in advance to save any grief at an actual event.

    Cheers

    Simon (Lightwood)

bankroll rules are fine for professional players or people who are trying to grind a roll.

what are your objectives? if losing £20 isnt a big deal to you then play whatever limits you like some people play for fun and theres no harm in that

if you are trying to grind a roll from your initial deposit try if you can to deposit at least the same again (if you can afford it) and then grind lowest stake dyms until you have approx £100 and then hit the cash tables fully rolled

I should add that whilst not being a great player in MTT's, I have had some wins and am a Profitable player with an overall ROI of 55% in MTT's so am not worried about being outclassed just don't like to throw money away with no clue about my strategy.

Hi James and Tikay. My question to Tikay is where does Tikay come from. I understand it is short for Tony Kendall but why not TK.

    Good evening Tony and James,

Looking forward to another good show tonight.

    Ask Tikay

    1. I know  it's often joked that you have this image of being super-tight with your opening range consisting of AA and KK which is clearly nonsense lol... obviously the better players will not pay this as much heed as others but do you ever use this image take advantage of people who believe you only play absolute premium hands?

    2. When you get quite a commanding lead in the late stages of a tourney, say there's 20 players left, blinds at 200/400, you have 20,000 and the other 5 players all have around 6000 chips, how do you change your game if at all? Do you start getting alot more aggressive? Do you stick to pretty strong hands to avoid doubling people up needlessly? Thoughts please Tony :)

#444372813Out first hand in the BH I didn't want to limp the QQ pre-flop. - but I was fixing myself a drink while listening to the riveting tv show intro & only just managed to hit the call button before time-out - so it's all TK & JH's fault.

Tikay what are your memories of my place of birth, High Wycombe.

Just so you know, they have upgraded the train station recently

Gives me the right hump the way Tikay continually gets distracted from informative poker questions with a whole load of unimportant engineering trivia.

So with this in mind could tikay please tell me if he has ever played a poker tournament in Ironbridge?

    ;o)))

    Z.

PS you can keep my C4P if you can tell me who designed the bridge!

TK thanks for your kind comments but I feel I need to correct your comments. It was the Royal Navy not merchant navy and it was actually a shore based draft. But its good to be back as I had to spend 6 months not playing poker.
