My first ever proper job included me having to test concrete in cubes for bridges that were being built.

    Hiya,

Just seen the AA vs. A10 hand - I'm wondering why do people call all in's when people limp/shove at these stages of the tournament. I've only seen good players doing this with AA or KK...

HI james  can you ask tikay a poker question please What is a vibrating poker for? thanks dai

It's used in the process of pouring concrete, you insert the end into the concrete, poke it around a bit, & it removes all the air pockets & bubbles by mechanical vibration.

    GREAT question.

Wooden sleepers are much the better in SOME ways, in that they have more "give" & flexibility in them, so you get a better ride. Wooden sleepers, 40ft lengths of jointed track, slam-door rolling stock, hauled by a steam loco, it does not get better than that, clickity clack clickity clack.

But there are downsides, too. They need replacing every 5 years or so, & that causes disruption, & cost. Concrete sleepers, if properly masde (precast, obv) last, pretty much, forever, so these days it is all concrete sleepers, & CWT.

CWT?  "Continuous welded track". An excuse to link to one of my favourite websites.....

What better way to spend the wekend than perusing that?

Tikay What is your favourite word? Will
    Posted by Wilhelm
    It changes daily.

Today we shall mostly be using "opprobrium".

Saturday will be "imbroglio", & Sunday, "gout".

EVERYONE should try & learn, & use, a new word, every day of their life. It can only improve our lives.

The poor & unoriginal use of language appals me. How many times have you heard poker players say "sick"? I mean, really, is that the best we can do?

I agree with Tony. From now on, when we’re vexed or outdrawn during a hand, rather then relying on the clichéd epithet of “That’s sick”, can we all please utter any one of the following:

    1. I have truly been smite by the slings and arrows of misfortune – as well as the harsh and unremitting bite of variance – due to your propensity for chasing a frankly optimistic gut-shot. I shall see you outside with pistols, and I will have pleasure at your demise, you odious vagrant of ill repute.

    2. A pox on you, sir. And your kith and kin to boot. Plus, any mates you might have in Las Vegas.

    3. What a dull dog am I...

    4. Woeful, woeful... I am shrouded in misery and my heart hangs heavy, such as would befit a spurned teenage lovelorn fop.

If anyone’s interested, my word of today is ‘Verisimilitude’. It’s either that, or ‘fenugreek’. I can’t decide.

    Love it Mr Flut.

    "Pox on you" indeed.

Actually, I rather liked "fop", as in "lovelorn fop".

I shall call Sarah Champion a fop on Sunday's Show.

I think Sarah Champion is amazing and I definitely don't think she could be described as a 'fop'. A fop from what I understand is 'someone overly engrossed in their appearance and incapable of intelligent conversation'. She is a naturally beautiful young woman and is highly intellectual. I am looking forward to another 3-4 hours of Sarah on Sunday and will hope you call her much nicer things than a 'fop'.  :)
Best wishes. Shaun the Villa fan in Bham

A pal of mine's writing (forum Posts) were described today by SPT Rich, elsewhere, as.....
