Okay have been doing this post on Hi Lo for ten days, number of response posts to say the least is dissapointing. I am thinking of giving up due to the fact that I feel that the response to my posts has been minimal. other posts for holdem seem to attract responses from many players. It would seem to me that Omaha and omaha Hi lo are only of interest to a minority on Sky. Omaha is getting more popular, but Hi Lo will never reach sufficient popularity as long as Sky insist on the minimum level of DYMs at £2.25, and no £3.30 level. the £1.10 MTT tournaments during the day attract 16 to 20 players, are terrific in structure and are great fun. However After 6PM the buy ins go up and no significant numbers play Hi Lo in the evenings. If anyone from Sky reads this post a £1.10 Hi Lo tournaments in the evenings would probably generate more rake than the tournaments that do not get filled.
As for the DYMs Giant, they usually follow the same format as regular DYMs, but tend to last a little longer due to the pot being split between the high hand and the low hand.
One difference, which in my opinion makes them better value is the fact that in a holdem DYM you can wait for 2 smaller stacks to get all in against each other secure in the knowledge that 1 is either going to go out, or 1 is going to be so crippled as to be effectively out. Not so in high low, you can bleed away blinds whilst the other players get it in and 1 wins the high and the other wins the low. You find yourself in these situations often in the latter stages of a HI Lo DYM, but on the plus side if you get it in with a half decent starting hand that has High and low possibilities, you may lose the high and win the low or vice versa. So unlike holdem where you either hit and win or your oppo hits and wins and the other players know one of you will take all the chips, in Hi Lo they cannot assume this.
