Omaha is getting more popular, but Hi Lo will never reach sufficient popularity as long as Sky insist on the minimum level of DYMs at £2.25, and no £3.30 level. Posted by 67Bhoys
I posted something in the Community Suggestions yesterday about this - Don't know why they can't have a £1.15 table at least.
There have been days recently when the 8.25pm £3.30 PLO8 got 15-20 runners. Unfortunately interest has cooled down over the last week or 2, let's hope that's just a blip.
Based strictly on the MTTs I play I disagree that PLO is more popular than PLO8. The £20gtd at 10 past 8/10/midnight rarely get 10 runners. I rarely play them anymore as I'm not really interested in playing a 4 or 5 handed winner-takes-all. The £500gtd (previously £1k gtd) never makes the guarantee. Tbf, most of that will be the £5.50 buy-in.
The PLO bounty hunters are reasonably popular on weekends, but the last one runs 5.40pm. What we need is for the PLO bhs to run all evening, more and cheaper PLO/PLO8 MTTs in general (the 7.10pm £3.30 PLO has been up recently) and also why not have PLO8 bounty hunters? Could be pure carnage.
Another way to introduce more players to 4 cards would be cheap/free mixed game MTTs, but I'm not sure if the SP software would be up for it.
Let's hope Tikay spots this thread, he's been takling about Omaha a lot on TV recently.
I'll be off the site for 2 weeks from Tuesday for Xmas break, I will most likely play the PLO/PLO8 UKOPS side events, but afterwards I might just give another site a try if Omaha action doesn't pick up here.
Most of us aren't that interested in Omaha and only play NLHE. If I see a thread on this forum about Omaha I almost never read it, I only opened this one because I'm interested see how 67Bhoys does in his challenges.
All the recent Series 1 UKOPS events smashed their guarantees apart from one; the Omaha event which ran with an overlay. That tells you all you need to know.
I'm glad Sky provide Omaha games for you guys and I hope the fields grow for the many Omaha lovers on the forum. There's no doubt that interest in Omaha has been growing slowly and I fully beleive those who say it's a great game, but for now you guys are still in a smallish minority.
Even if I was good at it, I don't think I'd be able to play it at any serious level coz of the swings. It's a sickkkos game.
It's really hard to get good at omaha without playing really tight and basically waiting for good hands. I find it quite boring playing a game I've got no edge at, if I win it's coz I've been lucky or got dealt alot of good hands, there's no satisfaction in that, and I know it's only a short term win, I can't possibly sustain it.
If you want an omaha/mixed game fix it's really easy to get 1 elsewhere . . . . .
You don't need to "change sites" or whatever, you can easily play on both. I'm sure Gary^^ will 2nd that! Loads of people do it.......
Havent read full thread just first post and this page
I play a little PLO and PLO8 now and again, am pretty bad though
Personally I think its a much better cash than tournament game, mainly cos it gets so many flips when people get short. This may just be my perception though, I havent played/dont know much about either omaha variant
One way sky could encourage it is to put round of each games in either cash tables or decent buy in MTT (either holdem and PLO or Holdem, PLO and PLO8)
I'll speak up for the silent majority; Most of us aren't that interested in Omaha and only play NLHE. I agree that Omaha is becoming more popular on the site, mainly due to the fact that you can give it a go for minimum stakes. A certain percentage will like the game and will continue playing. The more people try it, the bigger the pool of players wiil be.
Omaha HiLo however does not have these minimum stakes levels. You do get players who accidently enter a HiLo instead of a holdem DYM, but they generally have no Idea what is going on and lose £2.25 or £5.50 and never return.
I know Gary that you say you are one of the silent majority holdem players, but I reckon there is bit of you that wants to venture over to the dark side and try the HiLo.
I don't play it coz I'm rubbish at it. Even if I was good at it, I don't think I'd be able to play it at any serious level coz of the swings. It's a sickkkos game. Not true. I don't remember the exact figures but UKOPS2 comfortably made it's guarantee.

You should give one of the few MTTs running a chance. For the first few levels every hand gets limped multi-way, so plenty of play. Once blinds go up there is more pre-flop raising/bullying/gambling, so you almost get different games all within an hour for a small fee. Great fun.
I know Gary that you say you are one of the silent majority holdem players, but I reckon there is bit of you that wants to venture over to the dark side and try the HiLo. Posted by 67Bhoys
Maybe, I'll try just about anything once. I've dabbled in regular Omaha a couple of times and didn't really enjoy it tbh. I've yet to dabble in hi/lo, but I won't knock it 'til I've tried it.

If you are going to give it a go Gary, I would suggest the £1.10 tournaments, whch is the cheapest buyin.
Better session this afternoon, 5 games, 4 cashes. An out at level 2 for another loss of 50p. 3 cashes in a row for the current attempt which guarantees a profit of at least £3.00.

Sadly, PLO8 isnt exactly my strongest game, but for sure interested in mixed if that's what OP was trying to find?
PLO8 is fun though
