Break or No Break?

Don't worry it's NOT some new game show hosted by a cheaper version of Noel Edmonds coming soon to Sky Poker :):):)

Right at this moment in time i am in two minds whether to have a break from the game or continue to develop my game and stay on the tables it's just ever since my SPT Manchester exploits in November and a week later from that a 1st place win in the £500 11:10 Velocity, my form has been abysmal through a mixture of bad beats and outdraws and confidence has nosedived and frustration is kicking in big style and i'm not happy about it.

The only highlight for me tonight was folding the following:
PlayerActionCardsAmountPotBalance
pazzer59 Small blind  15.00 15.00 1925.00
MattyGuy Big blind  30.00 45.00 3330.00

joepr Raise  120.00 165.00 1985.00

OnlyOneCT Raise  300.00 465.00 1820.00
SeyRiver Call  300.00 765.00 2145.00
pazzer59 Fold
MattyGuy Fold
joepr All-in  1985.00 2750.00 0.00
OnlyOneCT Fold
SeyRiver Call  1805.00 4555.00 340.00

joepr Win Full House, 3s and Aces 4555.00  4555.00
I was sooooo sooo glad i did not lose any more chips and with joepr raise pre-flop i thought at that time just to re-raise to 300 to see where i was in the hand and with the quickness of joepr's re-re raise, i had that hunch that he was holding something big like either Kings or Aces and i was proved right.

People that know me better than anyone know that in any competition poker or non-poker related that i have participated in know i focus more on the pscyhological aspect and that's probably one of the reasons why i have won quite a lot away from Poker but can't understand what i need to do to have some success on the Poker tables because i know i've got all the basics covered and i do possess that big winning mentality (That could come across as big-headed or egotistical but it's gospel!) and i'll admit now my biggest weaknesses in Poker is squandering big chip leads in MTT's (SPT Manchester Final Table and £7k Double Stack are two prime examples that come to mind) and my general heads up play which needs an awful lot of improving.

Obviously Tuesday i have to be here for the big decider in TKO2 but Tikay if your reading this, if my luckbox services are not required due to the fact that the team will feel mega confident when we win 3-2 then let me know! :)......

I just feel rather down at the moment and wouldn't mind some words of encouragement!. :)

One other thing, i won't be at SPT Luton due to the fact i'm on my holibobs in Rome and to those who are still in Total Player, i wish you all the best of luck and may the best man/woman win!!!...

That is all!!!........

Do you just play mtts? Could you give me an outline of what types of games you play?

I only play MTT's as i would be useless at Cash and not really bothered much with playing STT's.

The MTT's i play mainly are usually Deep/Double Stack/Bounty Hunter and the odd Omaha guarenteed events.

a lot of players suffer from over confidence after a big win, looking at your sharkscope, this could well be the case here. Try really hard to play every game like you did when you won a tournament after a long losing streak--Remember how you played when you were desperate to win a game for a change, then stay in that mode, and don't relax your strategy or get too confident, especially concerning the amount of bluffs you make. hope this webbies--gl--floppa whoppa!

You'll be fine.  I think you need to stop expecting to win, and just like OYNUTTER says, you need to regain the mindset which you had before your autumn wins.  And come on, you are one of the main stays of Team Tikay and we would be lost without your wonderful railing.

    Take care

I FIND IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT NEED A BREAK THEN ITS BEST TO TAKE ONE.
IF YOU FEEL ITS A LUCK THING DROPPING LEVELS AS SOME HAVE SUDJESTED IS IMO A BAD IDEA BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO GET MORE BAD BEATS AND BIZZARE CALLS THE LOWER YOU GO.
I WENT THROUGH A SIMULAR FEELING (ALTHOUGH AT A MUCH LOWER LEVEL) AND READ A POST ON HERE BY ELSA DOG POINTING OUT THAT EVEN THE TOP PLAYERS ONLY CASH IN 10-15% ON TOURNIMENTS.
READING YOUPOST YOU HAVE A CLEAR STRATAGY TO YOUR PLAY GO FOR THE WIN AS YOU PUT IT.
PLAYING THIS WAY IS GOING TO HAVE ITS I BLEW A BIG CHIP LEAD MOMENTS BUT AS YOU WELL KNOW IF YOU WANT THE WIN ITS WHAT YOUVE GOT TO DO.
IMO I THINK A BREAK EVEN IF JUST FOR THE WEEKEND WOULD BE YOUR BEST PLAN.
GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE WHAT EVER YOU DECIDE.

    Hi m8.
Your too good for a break, sit back, take a deep breath and start playing the tightest poker ever, play as if your life depends on it. Keep remembering how much that big win meant to you and how awsome you were.

Yes its fantastic when the cards are hot, but when there not, you gotta hold on for dear life, don't depend on the cards! the cards depend on you! and what you do with them now is vital. Make your play, dominate the table, work the deck with confidance like its the biggest tourny of your life.

Bad beats don't last forever, but great players do.

    Good Luck at the Tables

Last night I played a DYM bubble so BADLY that I think I'm going to have to self-exclude for a while until I get over it, lol.
(Two shorties, two deepies inc me, and guess who I decide to tangle with). I do know better so why I did it I have no idea!

    Yo Craig,

If your form is bad, it probably means you are not enjoying the game. And anyone not enjoying the game should NOT play, & take a little break. There can be no reason for anyone to play when it's not fun - none at all. You see all the whinge-bucket stuff on here - that's becaise they are not enjoying it. Take a wee break mate, & come back refreshed.

But we NEED YOU on the Rail in Tuesday's TKO - you make the difference, your Railing is sheer quality!

Hope your Form changes soon Craig, & enjoy Rome. SPT Luton won't seem the same without you, but there'll be plenty more.

Looking at my sharkscope like oynutter did was a real eye opener and for me it was not pleasant reading.

Some very interesting and helpful comments from you all which I appreiciate greatly.

I enjoy Poker greatly and I've certainly learnt a lot more since I have been on Sky Poker but I don't seem to have implemented what I have learnt as much as I would like to in my game and that's frustrating.

I admit I have that "play to win" mentality and I have that competitive streak which is getting the better of me on the tables and your all probably right that I put too much of a higher expectation on myself to win all the time.

I am going to have a break from the tables starting from tomorrow for about 3-4 days and this may sound a bad idea but when I return I think for a 2-3 week period, I am just going to limit myself to only playing the 8:15 £100 GTD Omaha tourney. Ok we all know how the variance in Omaha can be sooo volatile but it's a game I enjoy an awful lot and like with everyone on here, you want to learn and improve and I think I will focus on that for a period then come back on the NL Holdem Tables when I feel that the time is right.

Good shout Craig, but it is NOT a bad decision. Never play this game when it's not fun - never ever EVER.

    Hi Tikay,

If I don't decide to play TKO on Tuesday, I will certainly be railing the troops and you can send another bandwidth bill to Team Lisadonkplop on my behalf! :)

Really looking forward to Rome as Italy itself is one part of Europe I have never been to and where I am staying is only a 5 minute walk from Rome's Central Train Station so I may do you proud and board a train and take a scenic tour of Italy which should be good.

In realist terms probably the next SPT event i'll be at will be the big one at DTD in Nottingham however I may have good reasons to do SPT Swansea as I have quite a few female friends in South Wales that i have lost contact with and would be nice to rekindle those friendships once again! :):):)

    Hi Mate

Firstly a man I respect greatly needs to do the right thing, I had a 6 month £200 downswing before I had a break, came back refreshed and suffered a poor SPT followed by a superb APAT !!

Have the break and then get back in the saddle and lets get inthe £10 rebuy at G casino one Friday when I a free, great value, plenty of value to make those moves!!

    Hi Dave,

Ill certainly hold to you to that proposition of playing in the £10 rebuy at G Manchester one Friday in the not too distant future!!...

I'm just gonna have a couple days away from the tables as Tikay is spot on with me probably not enjoying the game as much as i would like to. When i do return which is probably going to be Tuesday, the ONLY tourneys i will be playing for a 2 week period will be the 8:15 £100 PL Omaha event and possibly start playing 1 stt per night and anyone that sees me playing more than the 2 tourneys in any 1 night that i am restricting myself to in this period then feel free to give me a virtual karate kick in the nether regions lol! :):)
