Who won what, Friday 21st August - the good times are back

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 160,381

Good morning.

I mentioned the Women's Golf yesterday, and after the end of Day 2, exactly ONE player was under par. Meanwhile, the Big Boys were at the Northern Trust thing, where at the same stage, 70 players were under par, with the leader at -15, & we saw a 60 & a 59 in Round Two. In fact 12 players who were under par missed the cut. These are superb golfers, not questioning that, but which of the two Tournaments would you rather watch? 15 under after two rounds is ridiculous & is ruining golf. The commentators made it worse, frothing at the mouth & generally giving it the ra ra ra.

In the Test match, it was a glorious century from Zak Crawley, still at the crease on 171 not out. Sport, the best thing ever. After nature, that is. And fish & chips at the seaside.

The feel-good factor from a tremendous day of sport carried through to the poker, with a spectacular night by recent standards. I feel for Sky James trying to set guarantees, on Wednesday everything missed & by some distance, last night it was the complete opposite. The £8,000 BWBH set the scene coming in at £10,000, the £10,000 Avenger Main followed suit at £12,260, with the £4,000 Mini making £5,360. The Mega Stack should be on the Naughty Step technically, as it missed, but it was only by one entry (£20) so it gets let off with a yellow card.

Not sure what to expect tonight, but I fear Sunday might be a challenge, as it's the Champions League Final.

OK, let's get on with it.

£8,000 BWBH £10,100

£10,000 Avenger Main £12,260

£4,000 Avenger Mini £5,360

£1,500 Mega £1,500

£2,500 Sheriff £3,010

£2,000 Turbo £2,370

£1,500 Quickdraw £1,800

£1,500 Mid Ex £1,740

    £8,000 Big Weekend Bounty Hunter (£10,100)

    I find it really hard to keep these Reports fresh & at least mildly interesting, I churn them out 365 days per year & the main problem is I don't know a thing about most of the players. Well yesterday the serial winner Super_Oli made his maiden post on a Hand Analysis thread - & a very good post it was - then a few hours later took down the weekly BWBH for close to £2,100. He seems a smashing sort & I'm delighted for him, and it's so much easier to write about these guys when we get some sense of what they are like. It's been a standard week for him, 5th in this very MTT a week ago for £550, & 4th in the Sunday Major 2 days later for £1,200. He must have more money than Bezos.

    @Super_Oli 505000 1 £1439.25 + £649.41 Head Prizes 5

    @rubes 0 2 £924.15 + £679.83 Head Prizes 10

    @SirLeeroy 0 3 £575.70 + £157.03 Head Prizes 2

    £10,000 Avenger Rebuy B/Hunter (£12,260)

    We don't see much of jambeyang but he makes it count when he shows up. This was his first MTT here for a week & only his 7th in 2 months. A brief glance though his results shows some serious results though, including winner of UKOPS 02 in April for over £6,000 at the height of the Boomlet, and 2nd in a BWBH in June for £1,700. Another £2,200 or so went his way last night.

    Runner-up heellloooo is another who returned from being AWOL in MTT's, this was his first in over a month.

    3rd was The Bates. It's remarkable - but no surprise - that he's so popular given that he relieves so many of their money. Part of the reason is that I don't ever recall him bellyaching about a bad beat. When I used to play a lot of Live poker, two types of player were abhorred. Those who "nip" you for money, & those who regale you with bad beat stories. The latter were by far the most unpopular. You'd see them at the table & want to say "how did you get on yesterday?" but you know it will set them off on some interminable tale of woe. As if we cared. Denied the opening they crave, they would then say "did you hear about my exit yesterday?" We were drawing dead now, whatever reply we gave the story was coming. If I ever hear the words "so the flop came...." again I think I'll scream. Anyway, all that was a prelude to the clear excitement that The Bates is appearing on Guitar Blokes podcast on Monday. I have no idea what a podcast is, or what shop I need to visit to buy one but I hope to be among the eager audience. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a bit like a programme on the wireless.

    What a tough satellite this was, packed with good players, & a special well done to tsarina. Must have been a tough bubble too, as PBKR had a mountain of chips & would have been applying pressure big time.

    Was Mike aware that it was a bounty hunter?
    If it has been Haysie in 3rd he’d have had nearly as many heads as new threads he’d started during the course of the mtt

    Is @bbMike not a fan of BH's then?

    As to @HAYSIE, you have to make allowances, he's a) old & b) Welsh.

    @Shrimpy28

    Thanks mate, appreciated, & well done on those two recent wins in the Mega Stack & £400 BH.

    Why "Shrimpy", are you a Southend United fan?

    @Tikay10 thank you it was a nickname i got given early secondary school based on my height or lack of! Although a shrimp isn't a fish i thought it would tie in with poker as i qualify to be a fish a whale a shrimp and any other range of sea creature!

    As @Jac35 will testify, it’s tough to pick up bounties when you’re running like misterpj with a limp. Always seemed to win against the big stacks and lose vs the small ones in the mini last night - a little frustrating with the size of some bounties on offer, but happy enough with the total returns.

    At least I have all my faculties.

    I think that @Jac35 was pointing to the fact that finishing in third place in this tourney with only one head prize is unusual.

    The first and second had nineteen between them.

    Although Mike should be pleased with a FT finish anyway.

    I am sure you would have got there in the end.

    Boxes, tools, and particularly sharpness springs to mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The excessive exclamation marks were of course on purpose.

    Mike did a great job of laddering to 3rd being the table shortie. I got lucky and managed to cooler the Sunday Major endboss early on to stop him going on his usual rampage of scooping 78% of all bounties.
