I agree with Mrs Tom for most. Others, I don't know.
Anything with sultanas, raisins, etc is a definite no from me.
And what kind of h e ll has pineapple in a cake. Just wrong.
French Fancies, on the other hand. Yum, Yum.

That Bakewell tart looks the part.

One of my ex's favourite fondant fancy was the chocolate variety, rather than the lemon. I was disgusted with her. It was over at that point. Trust was gone.

Apologies for hijacking the questions, but, when I describe the following cake, many people have no knowledge of it...

I think 5 is just a carrot cake, as walnuts are fairly standard. I actually take them out when I make it, buy only to avoid groaning from my two chilldren and the adult that moans louder.

I didn't know what 9 was, but malt loaf doesn't look right. Definitely a fruit loaf of some kind.

Agree with @Doooobs, number 5 looks like a Carrot Cake.

Number 9 looks like the plum bread that my Nan used to make for us, so I'll go with that.

    My official answers...

    Dundee cake
    Bakewell tart
    Eccles cake
    Pineapple Upside Down cake
    Coffee & Walnut cake
    Fondant fancies
    Baked Alaska
    Fruit Biscotti
    Fruit & Nut loaf
    Swiss Roll

Very similar to the @tomgooduns' answers.

Fruit & Nut loaf is a bit of a guess, the colour appears wrong for malt loaf and, for picture 5, I am definitely in the coffee & walnut camp, and not the carrot cake mob.

Think 8 is a stollen looking at it again.

Don't be mis-led, fruit and nut isn't the answer - it just sparked a recollection of the "fruit and nutcase" advert

I had no confidence in my answer for no9, but was certain I was set for a 9/10.

However, I was incorrect with 8. I've never heard of a Stollen cake? Just Googled it and, from what I gather, it's very similar to a biscotti?

    Good quiz, great subject matter.

I have only had stollen a couple of times, so am not an expert, but from what I remember stollen is a soft cake, and biscotti is closer to a biscuit texture.

@Doooobs is correct. Stollen is a soft, slightly doughy cake with currants. Usually only available at Christmas. M&S do a very nice one
