'Look at the size of it!' Shocking moment a 14ft SNAKE is found on Scottish construction site - after a 6ft one was found dead nearby amid fears MORE could be on the loose

Construction workers were shocked to discover a gigantic 14ft-long snake on a construction site in the Scottish town of Greenock. Footage showed the workers tackling the reptile with one shocked worker heard exclaiming 'f****** **** man, look at the size of it'. Other video showed a different snake on a hillside, which appeared to be dead. Locals said three reptiles in total had been spotted although only the largest, the 14ft python, was captured and is being treated at vets.

Nice use of a racial slur in the thread title here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs here is a link for you. You will find Jock listed somewhere between Jewboy and Jungle bunny.

What do you call your local corner shop? A Chinese takeaway? You need to modernise your language old man.

Suppose you should expect no less from an Englishman who is clearly a big fan of the Daily Mail.

    Whoa! Hold on there.

Judging by his huge love for the EU, anti Brexit rhetoric and desire to be at one with Johnny Foreigner, Mr Haysie can hardly be called racist. Anti English maybe, Anti British possibly but never a racist surely?

Perhaps it is an age thing.

I rarely use the term "jock", but would never intend it to be a racial or ethnic slur (unlike several other terms that, thankfully, have largely disappeared). Much like "old man". As the wikipedia article you referred to says:-

"Occasionally used as an insult, but also in respectful reference to elite Scottish, particularly Highland troops". Context is everything.

I'm sure us English have been guilty of various things in relation to the Scots. The Welsh anti-Scots? Not so much.

I used to share a house with a Jock many years ago.

He objected to being called a Jock, about as much as I objected to being called a Taff.

However we would both have been really annoyed as being called English.

    Yet another angry thread?

It certainly wasnt meant as a slur.

Although I suppose the worst that can happen is that the snake could sue me.

Wow an Englishman now defends a Welshman against an accusation from a Scotsman.

Calling him racist was bad, calling him English was below the belt, but calling him a Daily Mail reader is the unthinkable.

Are the comments on this thread about the use of the word Jock for real or a wind up?

STOP being such a bunch of thin skinned snowflakes and grow up for pity's sake!

I grew up when Jocky Wilson was a darts player, and then there was the late great Jock Stein.

    Not to mention Jock Wallace............................

    Jock Origin and Meaning
The name Jock is a boy's name of Scottish origin.
This is a Scottish pet form of John, the equivalent of Jack in England. Has long been used as a generic name for a Scotsman, here it's a generic name for a--well--jock.
