Who won what, Monday 9th August - shock Main Event winner

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 160,639

Morning.

A fairly standard Monday for MTT traffic, though it was good to see the Monday Main hit it's best prize pool for five weeks.

Very little sport of interest to me yesterday, but it was significant day in more serious matters, as it is 10 years this week since the riots took place, originally in London after Mark Duggan was shot dead by the police, which then spread to many parts of the UK. Re-watching the footage in a 90 minute special last night on BBC (thank God for the BBC) it was quite a shock to be reminded of it all. All manner of political & social-economic reasons were given as the trigger for the riots, but to my mind, it was just pure criminality by feral youths. Smashing shop windows, looting stores, setting fire to cars, beating up police officers can only ever be criminality. Pray to God we never see the like again, though I fear it will, & probably quite soon as society becomes more & more lawless. All very depressing. Amongst the shops & stores looted was Poundland. Explain to me how that can ever make sense. Looting Poundland?. What exactly do Poundland sell that's worth nicking & getting a prison sentence? Imagine being in a prison cell & your cell-mate says "what you in for pal?" & you reply - "I raided Poundland".

seanboy_82 only returned from a 1 month hiatus on Saturday, played a couple of £3 & £5 DYM's, had no luck & logged off. Switched to MTT's on Sunday, no luck again, then returned again last night, played the 7 @ 7 - & nothing else - & won it. Has no previous Results thread mentions or forum activity. Maybe we'll see more of them now. WP seanboy.

THETANK spent 13 years on Sky Poker making steady profits year after year until hitting a bit of a variance speed-bump last summer. The tide seems to have turned in the last week or so though & he has a most splendid session last night - 1st in the £1k BH (£295), 2nd in Turbo (£247), & then won a £500 BH for some £110. By any standards that's a decent session, & it's good to see him back on the up & up.

In 3rd place was RCord, who won Mega, Sheriff & Turbo over the weekend for a terrific treble.

I arched an eyebrow when seeing that MML man NOSTRI was 4th, then the other eyebrow went up when I saw he had taken FIVE head prizes, which is way above his run-rate. I'm still convinced he has a decent win in him, something like that nightly £1 Rebuy seems well within his compass.

Well well well, The--Don winning the Main is a sort of Foinavon moment. Not because he lacks ability, far from it, he has a fairly solid CV, including winning Mega four times (three times this year), and a 2017 Mini Major, which was his biggest win until last night. It's really quite interesting when a man of his age - I'd put him late fifties, early sixties - has his best ever result after being on Sky Poker for nine long years. The point is he considers himself primarily a cash game player, & I suspect he's quite decent at the stakes he plays, especially as he table selects well. But in MTT's we can't table select. Were he to actually focus on MTT's I'm quite certain he'd do very well, as in an age when it's unfashionable to be a nit, he unashamedly boasts that he is. (Almost all wrinklies are nits). He's a bit like a pantomime villain really. Every month when the Sky Poker Promo is announced he tells us it's a waste of time, Sky sucks, & he's off to Unibet or somesuch, so we all have little bets on when he will return. The line is usually set at three days, so he actually did well this month. MTT players better hope he goes back to cash or Unibet, as he'd make a formidable MTT opponent if he took it more seriously. Course, he'd quit every month when the new Promo is announced, only to return a few days later. Currently Sharky rate him at 79, but if he quits with the monthly flounce, 80+ is well within his range.

After he won, a debate ensued who was the oldest player to win a Sky Main Event. Lots of names were thrown in the ring. Who do you think it was?

BarrattG1, who won Saturday's Sheriff, was third, recent Hitman Main winner BooBoo was fourth, with BBMike in fifth.

    £1,000 Mega Stack B/Hunter (£1,380)

bluenose7 - presumably an Everton fan - has been here since Day One but played very little, & this was almost certainly a personal best. He stayed on site until the early hours of this morning & also took down a little Turbo BH too, so maybe we'll see more of him now.

    DUTCHESS62 was runner-up.

The Hedster & grinddd - both of whom follow Sky Poker on Twitter & read these threads daily (thanks for the kind comments lads), were 4th & 6th, sandwiching the in-form bigfatfish.

Quite a surprise to see this was scotty77's best result since he won Turbo back in June.

Quite a line-up here, with Sunday's Major winner Crushy, RCord, Palace & lolufold all in with a shot.

On Friday pigeonpie ran 2nd in Reload, for a first Results Thread mention this year, then followed up by winning last night's renewal.

    £1,500 Turbo Bounty Hunter (£1,500)

tonyp142 is in the form of his life. On Friday he came close to a huge double - 1st in BWBH & 2nd in avenger Main - & followed up last night by winning Turbo a very hot Turbo renewal. Quite a Final this, with no obvious marks.

huge congrats to fake Don ;), i dont normally post many times on these, but I think like many the--don is one of those guys you just love to have around even if he can be seen as a pantomine villian by some.

I've known of him and spoke to him on fleeting occassions through the years even stalked his youtube a little back in the day, but recently really got to know the man behind the nit tag and honest such a genuine fellow who clearly just loves poker. Cant be more pleased for him.

Well done to every one else who cashed too
