Ha, thanks boys. My concrete addiction has no cure, but given my age, I'm fairly sure I'd pass the slump test...
The world of concrete was how I earned a living for manty decades, so I guess I'm entitled to be a concrete lover. But imagine living in a world where concrete did not exist...
We are surrounded by things without which life wold be so different.
Glass, for instance, how would we cope without glass?
And have you ever thought about grass? We could not live without it, it's the basis of animal feed, & it's a beautiful looking thing, with many sports relying on it. Not many things look better than a well-manicured golf course. And it's almost impossible to kill. And a bit of lawn makes a house look so much better, & the kids can safely play on it. My lawn was laid when the house was built in around 1980, & 43 years later, that same lawn is still thriving, it just needs mowing every few weeks each summer. Full of "weeds" mind, but no matter.
And don't start me on the trees & all their variations, shapes & sizes. Some of them are pretty dull, but some of them are spectacular.
In the modern world of course, there's TV, the Internet, Smartphones & everything that spins off from those things. And cars - compared to not long ago, modern cars are unbelievably reliable. When did you last hear of the brakes on a car failing? It does not happen, or at least only exceptionally rarely.
We've never had it so good if we care to look around us.

I worked at Birmingham Uni for a while and there was a professor there who was made an OBE for services to concrete. The actual award was probably for services to engineering but his specialist subject was concrete. I only remember it because I thought it was a weird thing to dedicate your life to.
