So recent events have had me thinking this one over. I mean my focus in sports has been on basektball and the mavs but really I mean my thoughts are on all sports in general.
So to sum up recent events the team I used to support were bought by the evil Alderson family, who decided to trade away Luka Donic. They said he had a bad attitude and just smoked Hookah (is that how it is spelled my spelling sucks I would lose a spelling bee to six year olds the pipe thing people smoke the fruity thing) and drank beer, and didnt make an effort.
Luka was playing semi professional basketball at 13 he was playing professional basketball at 16 he is amongst the very best in the world some would argue he is currently the best in the world. I am a Luka fan but would probably say he is third best after Jokic and Shai. However you dont get to be top 3 in the world at a sport that hundreds of millions of people play without a massive amount of effort the whole thing is a total joke and nonsense.
Now a lot of Mavs fans have gone furious going after Nico Harrison the GM who was behind trading Luka, protesters have been dragged out the arena and banned for signs and chants that say fire Nico. fans have actually crowd funded vehicles with giant signs on to drive around Dallas saying fire Nico. Death threats have been sent to Nico Harrison.
The mentality of the Mavs management is slave drivers no drink no relaxation you are to be living like a monk only to focus on basketball or your having a vacation on company time. they have made statements about the all time great basketball players never took a break and this is nonsense. (all time great in terms of basketball talent not moral charecter)
Shaq gained weight and had surgery during the season as didnt want to do it on his vacation time
Michael Jordan the goat used to stay up late gambling the night before big games.
Larry Bird used to get drunk and get in bar fights
and Kobe Bryant the one guy who many argue lived up to the monk lifestyle and had the 100% disclipline demanded, got himself into a rather sticky situation where was accused of arguably the worst crime anyone can be accused of. I wont speculate as to his guilt or innocence on that one because I can never know, but at best he was been unfaithful and got himself into a sticky situation that affected his psychology and game. I think if it wasnt for that he may well have taken the Goat title of MJ.
Kobey was immoral at best unfaithful again dont want to speculate further on that, the others wernt immoral in their actions but all cases showed a deviation from perfect disclipline so why is Luka been held to a standard that no one has ever met? and been condemned and charecter assinated in the media like this?
the Mavs players have been worked to exhuastion by this extreamist mentality they ruined Kyrie Irving my second favourite player (after Luka) I do not hold up hope for Kyrie ever playing the game at a high level if at all again. I think at this point I just hope for Kyrie that he can walk properly again.
So what is acceptable in sports I know athletes get paid extortionate amounts of money but they are still human and should not be pushed to injuries by ruthless hypocritical billionaires.
I do not justify death threats I cannot justify the Mavs ownership and Nico getting death threats over a sports game.
but should fans be dragged out for calling for Nico to get fired? I personally believe that management have to make the decisions they believe are best for the club regardless of what fans may or may not think. Right or wrong Nico was doing his job he should not get death threats for doing his job regardless of how good or bad his performance is. ( its terrible btw)
but should fans be banned and dragged out for calling for him to be fired? absolutely not in my opinion, if you take on a high management position in elite professional sports you must recognise its a high pressure job and your performance will be scruitinized fairly or not.
I think the fans should have every right to freely and peacefully express their anger at what they rightly or wrongly believe was the worst decision ever made in the history of sport a bad decision.
when people get racist and throw abuse at people in sports when they get violent and when they issue death threats this is unacceptable. But fans been banned for calling for a terrible manager to be fired I disagree with I think fans should be able to boo someone who is utterly terrible at their job.
what do others think is the limits for fans behaviour?
