Just had a letter about the increase.
Mine is going up to£118.32 from April, for 2 months, but only £118.28 for the other 10.
    It was £88.87.
That looks like a 33% increase.
    Slightly more than inflation.

I have no idea why we (the taxpayer) continue to fund either OFWAT or OFGEM.

In an ideal world, any oligopoly would love to be able to collude in order to fix prices. So that, secretly, every Company could arrange it to artificially all increase prices together. In order to maximise profits.

It would be most oligopolies' dream to be able to organise a body to look after their interests. So, for example, to all put prices up together. For it to be declared that, for example, the mere fact that various Water Companies have paid out £Billions to Shareholders by pretending to make a profit. When, secretly, they were making massive losses. Because if it were the Water companies doing what OFWAT do, that would be a Criminal Offence.

So. Could someone please explain to me why the taxpayer provides, and funds, what amounts to a Corporate Wet Dream for the Water industry? These hapless bodies just rip us off.

I get why any Water Company wants to make themselves richer at our expense. Why does OFWAT wish to do it?

Here is an article that I found illuminating.

    https://www.newstatesman.com/business/2023/06/water-companies-ceo-ofwat-regulating-england-polluted-rivers

Not a political piece. It is by the Right Wing New Statesman. But done when the Conservatives were in control. In 2023.

The then-CEO of OFWAT was David Black. The article states that Water Companies have been dressing up their accounts to overpay shareholders. Hence the Headline "We need Water Companies that are fit for purpose". That is not the New Statesman's words. That is the words of the CEO of OFWAT. That the solution to stop so many Senior Executives at OFWAT leaving to trouser more money at Water Companies is (surprise, surprise) to increase pay at OFWAT.

In 2025, the CEO is still David Black. The man who said in that 2023 article

"After a decade at Ofwat, David Black remains optimistic that the industry can somehow be encouraged to stop pumping sewage into Britain’s waterways."

While remaining in post as Chief Enabler.

Which, I have to say, I find surprising.

There is so much wrong with our country, and seemingly a lack of will to address the problems.
I saw a Sky News report this morning, about a man who is an environmental protester.
He is singlehandedly holding up work on the countrys first carbon capture gas power plant at a cost to developers of £100million every three months.
Hi name is Dr Andrew Boswell.
He has lost every single court case he has been involved in.
The taxpayer picks up his legal costs.
    No sign of him stopping.

    Water meters?
My next door neighbour claimed that his bills increased after having one fitted.
