This day last year

"Not a great night for traffic, far from it, which is disappointing coming as it did after two decent nights.

@AlexaAJ took the Main which will have surprised nobody, but he needs to improve his timing - 24 hours earlier he won the Mini & If he'd won both on the same night he'd be £5,000 better off. Having said that, he's doing just fine, it's only mid March & his 2024 haul of 1st places includes Summit, Hitman Main, Predator Mini, 2 Quickdraws, Turbo, MidEx & 7 @ 7. So I guess he's getting by financially. Runner-up was @yougomuck and those with long memories & bad viewing habits may remember him winning the televised "Sky Sports BH" on Sky Sports TV some 12 years ago. Runner-up that day was @Topdogfish who is still playing regularly on Sky Poker. For all i's faults, Sky Poker does somehow generate great loyalty from it's player base.

In the Mini, the likeable @ILIKE2FISH took top spot. In 2023 he played more MTT's than anyone else on Sky Poker, and so far in 2024 he leads the field by a long way, he's played 2,625, some 800 more than the next player, @chkngeorge. It's all slightly misleading though, as he plays shed loads of satellites. That's a good thing of course, as it aids liquidity.

5th in the Mini was @bbmike who had quite an evening, & was the only player to cash in both of the big PLO8 events - 5th in the £400 version, 1st in the smaller one. Then, when the clock struck midnight, he began his Streak Week campaign, playing 36 DYM's in the next 90 minutes. I never did a full audit, but I think he may have managed a 10 streak but they were at different stakes so won't count.

The £400 PLO8 was like All Our Yesterdays (anyone remember that?) with the old Plopper crew mostly present, @botneck 1st, @Whizzewky 2nd, @Enut 3rd, @bbMike 5th & @pompeynic 6th. I miss those days so much. First thing I do when Sky Poker put me out to grass is start playing the O8 stuff here again, assuming I'm still around & compos mentis.

@TheDogs-1 had their first thread win, taking down Mega. Then, at the stroke of midnight, & like many others, he moved across to the DYM's to start get a prompt start to Streak Week.

The opening £1 BH went to @The_Source and that's the 2nd time they've made that FT this month. Been here a very long time & not played much, with 90% of their volume being cash games.

@Stevo_me won the £500 BH & that was his maiden thread win as far as I can see. It was almost exactly a month since his last thread mention, for making the FT of the same affair.

@claudel9 & @Vertigo battled out the 9 @ 9 FT, & it's not the first time those two have shared a FT as I know they've done so at a Live event not so long ago too. @claudel9 got the better of the duel this time, with Shropshire's finest @Vertigo in 2nd.

@Samyboy17 tuns up almost every night & one-tables Reload. Has won it several times already, & did so again last night. Made the FT of it one night last week too."

Morning.

MTT traffic was not too bad last night, just two events missing guarantee, Sheriff falling short by £100 & Reload by £87. Pretty good considering the quality of the CL football on TV which included world-beating teams such as Arsenal & Real Madrid. Tonight should be OK too, as the only UK interest in the minor European stuff are little bottom-half teams such as Spurs & Man U.

In the Main it was like turning the clock back a few years as victory went to @MattBates. Won his seat in a £7.20 satellite, so that made it all the sweeter. His Sky Poker profits are just a smidgeon shy of £400,000 & I'm struggling to think of any player on the Site who has won more. He's probably also won more £100 events, & more Mains, than almost any other player here. Somewhat surprisingly, I think he only ever won the Sunday Major once, though he won it's predecessor, the Super Roller, a few times. Runner-up was @Swog, which was his best result here in 2025, though he's only played around 60 MTT's here so far this year, as he mostly plays with the Big Boys on the major sites these days as well as "Live". In 5th was @Uzi_lover who is another blast from the past. Rarely plays here these days though did win a Sheriff in February. 4th was @jedinemo with @Frankson8 in 6th, both of whom we shall return to in due course.

Winner of the Mini was @jedinemo and as he ran 4th in the Main he collects a very useful £750 cash bonus from the FTJ kitty. That made for a very decent night - £353 from the Main, £237 from the Mini & £750 FTJ, so in total around £1,340. Nice.

Less than a week since winning 7 @ 7, @Dravidio won again, the £800 BH this time.

Meanwhile, @allan40618 who won the Rebuy BH three weeks ago took down the 7 @ 7.

@Frankson8 won the Rebuy BH as well as finishing 6th in the Main. Made a couple of other FT's too, including 1st place in a £150 BH. Was on & off the site from 8am until around midnight yesterday, & since November has played more MTT's (including satellites) than any other player on the site. (in excess of 3,000). I don't have a problem with that - it's NOMB - but it just feels way too much, & in poker, as in life, very often less is more. I spent most of my life over-indulging in one thing or another & it was only in my later years that I realised that I was missing so much fun by doing everything to excess. None of which is a dig at young @Frankson8, not at all. And in any case, I can't recall the last time anyone took any notice of any advice I ever gave.

Playing MTT's here for only the 2nd time since last July, @gcaddy took down Reload.

9 @ 9 went to @Buttafngrs who Sharky rate at 89 & seems to have a 30% ROI at an ABI of ~£27. Has won several Main Events including Avenger, with his best result being 1st place for best part of £3,000 in a Boomlet Summit in 2020.

For the 2nd time in less than a week @utang won MidEx. Very much a late-night specialist, I tried to count how many times he's won Turbo, Quickdraw or MidEx, & I gave up counting when I got to 30. Can't imagine many players can boast a better record in those.
