The Telegraph needs to be more newspaper, and less partisan.
What it fails to mention is that the Conservative-led Woking Borough Council acted appallingly. It ran up a £2 Billion debt. Lending all sorts of money. Not to people who were actually providing Council services. So, for example, lent £millions to a Private School. Who cannot repay the money.
There are plenty of Labour councils that have mismanaged money, and gone bust. But at least that has been through trying to fund things Councils are supposed to be funding.
People who try their best but fail to balance the books? Questions should be asked as to whether they are fit for public office.
People who lend £hundreds of millions of taxpayers money to people who knew fine well they were not entitled to it (like, for example Thurrock and Woking)? Questions should be asked as to why such people are not in Prison.

They're getting their money back from the residents every little way they can by cutting services and charging for others. Wheelie bin collection is now fortnightly, garden waste is now chargeable and today announced a 50% rise in residents parking permits, no doubt this is only the tip of the iceberg. Whilst those those who caused the nearly £2billion debt remain unaccountable for their actions.

Not behaving like a private bank.
