Thousands of winnis from all over will be arriving in london today ready to watch the spurs southampton game hoping to see relegation confirmed for southampton today.
Jesus went into a Hotel on Good Friday. Carrying 2 long thin bits of wood, and some nails. Asked if they could put him up for the night.
Too soon?
Seriously, Football is essentially tribal. You support your village, and denigrate the next village. Much like in real life, every city has the same rivalry with another city, town with town, village with village etc.
So-a Spurs fan will have sport with an Arsenal Fan, and vice versa. Always happened. Always will happen.
It is a little bit disturbing if someone only hates the next team/town/village/whatever without supporting their own.
This is also a reason why I distrust the American Nation. Because Sport tells you a lot about how a Country thinks.
The UK has healthy sporting rivalries. At a national level, a lot of that involves Scotland/Wales/Ireland desperately seeking to beat England, England v France etc.
At State/local level, the US operates in the same way. Red Sox v Yankees, that sort of thing.
But the US has no regular sporting contact with its neighbours. None v Mexico, just the occasional Ice Hockey Match v Canada-that is it.
and just as when southampton get promoted a winni dies when they get relegated a winni is resurrected and new winnis get born.
At this time of year some of us are very big on ressurection and rebirth. For a no obligation explanation contact your nearest Alpha Course.
the idea that most of humanity will be tortured for all eternity for not believing in and worshiping one of the most evil beings ever concieved of is not a pleasent thought. people accuse me of negativity, I think you deserve that crown.

professional sports is entertainment, I get my entertainment by rooting against a team there is nothing wrong with that. In basketball I support a player or players rather then a team, I have seen two franchises destroyed by narcistic greedy and incompetent owners. Should i be committed to supporting the same NBA team when they screw over the players that attracted me to that team in the first place?

actually the NBA has being looking at expanding they have looked at the option of a UK NBA team based in London. They have also had some games in europe before and there are talks about expanding the NBA into Europe.
Will any of this happen? maybe or maybe not. However they have being looking into the option so not sure I agree with your takes here.
With the greatest of respect, you and the USA do not view sport in the same way as pretty much the entire rest of the World.
There are 2 traditional strands to sport support. Club and Nation. Pretty much everywhere else.
Scottish people revel in beating England at just about everything, but particularly football.
Welsh people revel in beating England at just about everything, particularly Rugby.
Germans love beating the Dutch at football. And so on. In 95% of the World. Ask a Canadian how much beating the US at Ice Hockey means? And that includes Canadians who don't actually like Ice Hockey.
Whereas a majority of Americans view Nationality as irrelevant. Because they regard the World as having just the 2 nationalities. American. And not American.
You love Basketball. Think of all the great non-American players-Antekoumpo, Wenbanyama, Doncic etc. Who will be proud to represent their Country. Unlike Americans-who play less Internationals than British Basketball players. Same for Baseball and American Football.
America has 2 land borders. The same as England. Imagine if England refused to play Scotland or Wales at any Sport

I dont know how you miss out Jokic in that list. Small nit-pick but right now he is the best player in the world. I think people have the right to take whatever attitude they like to elite sports where everyone is paid elite wagers.
If I booed a BBL team (british basketball league) that would be different as most of the players and coaches are barely making a living wage so if a team loses too much people may not be able to afford to pay their rent or mortgage, and or their kids may have to go without. Booing them is harsh. I suppose if the Southampton manager was like Manute Bol or etc then it would be harsh to boo southampton but that does not apply. (Manute Bol was an NBA player who gave the vast majority of his money to charity and pretty much strife to do his best to support starving people with the money)
I wont ever apologise for booing millionaires in public entertainment who keep the vast majority of their salary.

Manute Bol was also a permanent drunkard who regularly let his team-mates down due to his insobriety.
Having said that, he was very tall indeed, variously described as 7'-6" or 7'-7".
I had the dubious pleasure of sharing a poker table with him briefly (very briefly, he was very bad indeed, & very drunk) at the old Binions Cardroom in Fremont Street, Downtown Las Vegas.

He looks like one personal foul would snap him in half, well worth the free throws to get him out of the game.

I cant comment on his drinking I did not know that detail. I will take your word for it that he was playing terrible poker. Being good at basketball and being good at poker are two entirely different things. (note he was not good for the NBA but any NBA player is among the top 500 players in the world and being amongst the top 500 in an activity that hundreds of millions of people play is phenomenal.)
All that being said I didn't claim he was a flawless human being with no vices or negatives at all. However he gave a much higher proportion of his salary to charity then most ever would.
I admired that about him and I route for his son Bol Bol. I like to think that if I earned the money he did (adjusted for inflation there is the possibility we get extreme inflation and our economy or other economies go the way of pre WW2 Germany or Zimbabwe where it ends up costing millions for a loath of bread) that I would do more then the average person to help my fellow man and other living creatures.
I don't disagree he did much laudable charity work.
He was also guilty of hitting & injuring his young daughter, & many years later, beating up his wife. He was charged on three separate occasions with DUI.

I know which gets the most weighting with me.
well i didnt know the negative things about the guy, it saddens me to hear this. I am not going to get into debates on whether overall the guy was or was not a decent person.
My point was when he played he effectively was playing for those in poverty so booing him would be harsh.
when most athletes at elite levels play they are paid millions the vast majority of whom spend the vast majority of that wealth on themselves. I am not saying they are right or wrong to do so, more that i wont feel bad about rooting against them in that spot. Where as if they are on the breadline and or giving most of their earnings to decent courses its harsh to root against them.
