Checking back top pair for deception/pot control?

Lets say i have K5s on the button, its unopened to me and i raise it up to steal the blinds, the big blind calls and the flop comes K 4 10 rainbow.

Would it be a good play to check behind in this spot? I have top pair but not with a very good kicker, so by checking behind we are keeping the pot small, but at the same time it is deceptive.

Or should we always be c-betting in this spot when we flop top pair?

What if the flop came K 10 J with 2 spades? obviously a very wet board, should we c-bet in this situation to avoid giving a free card to the opponent?

if you cbet when you miss here, you ought to be firing when you hit.

Just going after the blinds is -ev as a sole objective these days as people dont like to fold.  Is prefferable for him to call from the blinds, not to fold.
