Yeah, the best way would be to make it a points-based league system (either over a year or perhaps even a quarter). Like I said in the original post, it was not my idea, but as it was hidden away in one of the show threads, I thought I'd bring it out so it could be discussed with the object of seeing if the big boys could implement it in some way.

Nah max points would be 18,250 (365*50).... gl with that lol. The league table would be points based every single day from my understanding which is by far the best way  to see who performs best in the long term and not just who gets lucky once and binks a ME.

In that case it will be restricted to the high roll regulars to have a chance - which would limit appeal.

Capping at 350 would at least give recs a chance to build up a score over the course of a year?

Maybe best would be to have 12x monthly prizes with an overall prize for the whole year (ie each monthly max is 350 if you cap at highest score per night or 1500 for a 30 day month).

If I binked a 1st early in a month (it would be a mini with my BR) it would certainly encourage me to play in more events and select different nights over the rest of the month.

I think it has to be over the whole year every day to get the best results. It shouldn't be too restrictive if there's two seperate tables, some people might not compete in the ME one, but most can compete in the Mini one. It's not like you'll have to play 365 days of the year, I don't think there's many if any players on the whole site that play every single ME and mini.

If you cap it at like 350 I think you'd get more than 1 person over the course of the year that get max points and you wouldn't even get a true winner.

...as much as it pains me, I kind of agree with Lambert on this one ;)

    i am comfortably numb
    no pain whatsoever
unless you go for your proposed table
which will be oodles of work
    and reward volume over results

instead focus on FT only 1pt for 6th, 2 for 5th etc, plus a bonus point for winning
and only count each persons best score for each weekday
and if you have won the mtt on every weekday have another bonus point
    so best result is 50pts

do this for main only, mini only, and combined score - max = 100pts

Like the idea.  Not sure the points system should be sooooo top heavy.

Seems pretty harsh for one guy to finish 10th in 49 ME's and still be behind a guy who luckboxed one...

Really nice idea this, Slipwater. Let me have a word with the management and we'll see what we can do to support this.

    Cheers,

My feeling is that all people that cash should be awarded points. With the current structure, someone could finish 11th every day and still have less points than someone who came 10th once.

something like this - although I think this one is aimed at larger fields (copied it from another site's leaderbards):
    PlacePoints
    Tournament Champion100
    2nd Place80
    3rd Place70
    4th Place60
    5th Place55
    6th Place50
    7th - 12th Place35
    13th - 18th Place30
    Remaining Cashers - Top 10%25
    Remaining Cashers - 2nd 10%20
    Remaining Cashers - 3rd 20%15
    Remaining Cashers - 4th 20%10
    Remaining Cashers - Bottom 40%5
No Points Awarded in Non-Cashing Place

would also be good to get one going for UKOPS?!

one more thing: to solve the problem of people not being able to/not wanting to play every day, you could say that your 10 best results count every month or something similar. 3 best every week maybe.

overall, i love this idea. I would like to see it broken down into: mains, minis, monthly, yearly and  then for each UKOPS. could be quite alot of work though, unless Sky can automate something

I have to admit that i really do like the sound of having a year long leaderboard to showcase the regular strong tournament players. Even with this one it would allow occasional players the chance to shine and be ranked above the bigger names. Would make for very interesting viewing. Hopefully if some prizes can be thrown in for the deserving few even better.

Now my opinion on this is about as unbiased as it comes because i am pretty certain that my points tally in the events for the entire year will both be at zero. but i will still check it out regularly to see what is happening.

Hopefully the right points structure can be agreed on and it implemented in about a fortnight

    Great idea...& Great debate lads!!!

...I like SoLack's Lambo's & Slipwaters points as well as others!

Having helped Run Leagues, ....normally Simple is best!

Remember Many players here may only play Once/Twice a week Mains, & may miss a month or week here & there!!

I wonder if someone with Time could consider doing this over a Whole Year for Mondays DTD1,2,3!!!
.....as lots regular forum posters play those always!! sry to change track!

PS sry 2014 am too busy, pmsl!!

Loving this idea... and I think keeping it simple is the way to go.
I've played pub leagues for about five years and points structures are made so solid players finishing 2nd , 3rd and 4th regularly can win the league against someone who wins 2 games out the season, because the gap in the points is n't massive but enough for incentive to win.
Having a year long league you v'e got to keep everyone interested by having a chance to accumulate points but not by winning all the time.

    Example    Final Table
    1st. 50
                                    2nd. 30
                                    3rd. 25
                                    4th. 20
                                    5th. 15
                                    6th. 10
and everyone else who cashes gets 5 points.

If this was to get started I would probably just stick to sky poker for 2014!

The hardest part is winning, there should be a sizeable difference between 4th and 1st. You can ladder a FT to 4th, you can't ladder to 1st, you gotta play.

Hmmm, you know poker much better than I do, but I would have thought that if the scoring system was F1 style:

    25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1

Then the difference between 1st and 4th would be more than enough? 13 points is a big difference when the top "prize" is only 25? Almost 50% less for 4th.

only two scoring systems we should be considering

    1. linear (with a bonus for the win) - doesn't let one bink overwhelm several deep runs
    2. pot percentage - just score based on the % of the pot won - if this is a good way to reward the players in the mtt, it should be good to appraise their multi tournament play

every other suggestion is just some b*st*rd hybrid between the two for people who don't have a spreadsheet

which to choose all depends whether we want to be rewarding the best cashers or the most consistent runners
