Qualified for the UKPC for £2.60, now im bricking it!!

Hi guys,
This is my first post on here. I have played poker for a few years, mixture of online and games with friends. recently I managed to qualify for the UKPC in February all the way from £2.60 sat!! chuffed to bits with this but I cant help but feel a little intimidated. I would say I am a fair poker player but I have never done anything on this scale and I have very limited casino style live play experience. Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me, or if anyone is in the same boat. Of course I'm excited and I'm going to give it my all. but at the same time any advice that could stop me looking like an absolute Noob would be appreciated.

    Congratulations fella!  I myself won a seat albeit through the truth or bluff competition and have never played in anything of this magnitude.  It's cost you £2.60 plus expenses, just relax and enjoy the experience so you can play your A game.  Also don't allow for yourself to be intimidated, play with the same confidence that has got you this far! Good luck!!

    Advice? Just enjoy the **** out of it!

    Basically freerolling a 1k tourney, so enjoy every moment, absorb it all in, and try not to be intimidated by other players. Get way more time playing live, so think things through when involved in a hand, and don't make rash decisions.

    And if it all goes t1ts up, then you're a couple of quid down so no biggie. If it all goes well.....

    Congrats on getting the seat.

    I would advise going down to your local casino before the comp. Just  so that you feel comfortable with some of the nuances of live play. The main thing is, just enjoy it.

    Congrats!

    Think I would get abit more live experience before Feb, most live pros can spot inexperience players just when you sit down. Play a few live tournaments doesnt matter what stake but just to get a feel of what its like to be playing in a casino.

    Dont be too nervous just try and enjoy it. Good luck.

    Excellent story and hope you can turn it into some big money.

    If not you'll have a great experience.

    Would def echo what others have said and go to your local card room, just to get used to the live poker experience a bit more.

    Also, don’t over estimate the level of players you will play against. Just because it is a big buyin doesn’t mean they are all world class players. There will be good players but there will also be normal and v poor players. Try not to build up the level of competition in your head too much.

    Not wanting to scare the OP lol but tbf while there will be some softer spots, its gonna be a pretty insane field imo. They still just got 2 cards like you though :) great achievement and experience whatever happens, good luck.

    +1 to the idea of getting some live experience just so you feel more comfortable and know about stuff like string betting

    Best of luck 5ky, would be a smashing achievement to go on and cash in a £1100 from a mere £2.60. Tikay will make sure you have a fun time, and as with every Sky related tournament (particularly at DTD) it will be a great weekend had by all.

    +1 to visiting a casino for a £10 freezeout, just to get used to the environment (and prepare you for some of the grumpier souls of the game).

    In light of the fact that many people may be new to live poker at the UKPC, I'm going to start a thread on live etiquette, just to help out with those who are unfamiliar, make sure to have a read!

    Make sure you take Tikay up on his offer!!

    I played my first live SPT in Dublin last year - and like you had not played live before (it was only a £220 game rather than £1100 though).

    Tikay arranged for a practice table for a few of us "newbies" and got some regulars to say hi etc to make us feel a bit less terrified.  I was still terrified mind you - but it can't have been all bad as I went on to play in 2 more SPT games after that and even managed to min cash in one of them!!

    Just enjoy your game and take some thinking time about your hands.

    Most of us haven't played games at this level of buy-in, but it's the same game as at any other. You get two cards, and a flush still beats a straight.

    Enjoy it and good luck.. I cant give you any advise as id be in exactly the same position as you if I was lucky enough to get there (which I doubt will ever happen).. let us know how you do :-) A great story good luck again..

    Pretty sure we all envy you!
    But rather than being intimidated you should be invigorated!
    Qualifying from £2.60 is just as much an achievement as running well in the UkPC.
    You've proven you can compete and succeed with the best Sky has to offer.
    When it comes to your big days in February you should be fearless.
    All you have to lose is £2.60 when most have paid £1,100 to play.
    my only advice would be to keep a low profile in the early stages and once you've become accustomed to the surroundings, settle in and play your own game. Its got you half the way, who knows how far it will take you?
    Good luck and if nothing else, enjoy the experience!
    Your bragging rights alone should keep you going well into 2014
