Is he the best?

Phil Ivey won another major tournament taking down $4m (Australian dollars) in the $250k buyin event. Very nice!

Phil is oftern cited by people as the best but do you agree? If someone asked you if Phil Ivey was the best all-round holdem player in the world would you say yes?

As usual, your thoughts would be appreciated.

If you voted no, who would you say is the best?

Or do you think it's impossible to say?

I like the guy, but I've always had a soft spot for Hellmuth.

Poker is a game of such small edges these days, who are we to say who is the best? None of us are good enough to make that assesment.

Would he beat Matt Bates Heads Up?

Come to think of it, have Phil Ivey & Matt Bates ever been spotted in the same room? Could be the same guy.

So why did he, and still now, refuse to play Jungleman HU? And rather than playing him HU, he's having to pay him $40k+ every month or something until he finally plays.

    Ivey, no
    Dwan, no

Ivey probably is the best all round player in the world but I think there are others who are likely better NLH tournament players.

People like Vanessa Selbst, Scott Seiver, Jason Mercier and Steve O'Dwyer to name a few seem to consistently cash in big events. I reckon their MTT ability is slightly better than Ivey's, probably as they seem to play more tournaments than him.

I think you have to look who is and has been around the longest and still winning ivey is good although loaded three time and still busted out in the high roller I think same time as the EPT 9 was playing.
my money is on,Erik Seidel, Phil Hellmuth and (my favorite)   Daniel Negreanu and of course "The Magician" himself  Antonio Esfandiari.
and just for the record would love to play with Jennifer Tilly,

Ivey is good ... no doubt. But I feel that this win does not compare to other pros cashing in larger fields time and time again. I just read a PS blog article about Schemion cashing in all three majors at the last 3 EPTs and so has Selbst. Far more of an achievement beating a bigger field and an winning an actual title rather than beating a field of HR's who basically pass each other’s money around between each other.

In the last year I would think the top 5 pros repeatedly cashing and playing well would be:

    Schemion
    Selbst
    Seidel
    Negreanu
    O Dwyer

Paul Action Jackson should have a big shout out too on current form.  Not only did he take down the grand prix at Dusk 'Till Dawn on Sunday but he took down the much more prestigious forum DTD last night too.  Very well played sir
