Got a year yet - help/advice needed.

I'm not very good at typing long paragraphs or anything like that so i guess i'll just get straight to the point lol.

I turned 20 yesterday, had a good night got drunk can't remember half of it and all of that stuff(lol). Anyway my mum told me she couldn't think of anything to get me for my birthday so i suggested she could give me half the money she won in the stock market exchange thing with bitcoin a while ago (£5,000) so i could put it in poker along with what i already have saved up the now. To my surprise she agreed but i stopped her and said i'll wait another year yet until i'm 21 to do it, so gives me an extra year of preperation etc.

I doubt any of you lot really know me, what i'm like and stuff like that.. well to put it bluntly i am a lazy *******, never wanted to go out get a job/education and earn my own money, become independent or anything like that, i've never had motivation to do anything in life until poker came along. So basically it's either i play poker for a living or i'm screwed lol.

I first started playing poker a few months after i turned 18.. on that zynga for a while and then i started going to pub poker nights around my area (5 nights a week nuts poker league its called) i've been going all the time for the past 16 months now, came top of my regional every season, won 5 venue trophies and recently i just won the champion of champions end of season final game to qualify for the naitonal final in Stoke again. But that's just pub poker, standard of play there is shocking, i mainly go to socialise and have a laugh etc while at the same time improving my game every day.

Started playing online poker about a year ago i think, took a while to get used to it but i love it now. Tried out all of the different sites and i've stuck with titan poker for now. I started off with just £120 (30BIs for 4nl) and i've been up and down ever since, most of my losses have came from gambling problems to do with blackjack etc but i've got that under control now so it's all good. Currently from poker i'm up over £1,000 or something like that, i did keep track of my winnings/losses but i lost the document and the fact i keep withdrawing doesn't help me figure it out lol.

At the moment i still just play 5nl and 10nl, speed hold'em poker which means i can play like 1,000 hands per hour, i love it there lol. But obviously when i turn 21 i'll have more money to play with, i'll keep £1,000 to one side in case it all goes wrong and play with the rest (so will be about 6-7k in total i'm hoping)

Basically just anyone who has any tips or advice for me would be much appreciated, i've got a whole year yet so time is on my side i guess lol. I've probably missed a lot of information out like i said i'm no good at writing long paragraphs so any questions feel free to ask.

Spend the year playing/studying as much as possible, ditch the pub league and play more online (or real money live games).

Stop withdrawing money and move up to nl20 and nl30 as and when your bankroll permits. If you can't grind a roll up to play nl30 within a year then you're either not good enough or not committed enough to do it at all.

You did the right thing delaying it a year, now prove to yourself that the 5k isn't going to be wasted before you accept it.

Happy Bday for yesterday! (and prepare for some strong opinions to follow on this thread! :P)

I can't ditch the pub league, it's brilliant haha. Besides i'm never awake until like 4pm, by the time i get out of bed get ready and stuff it's time to go out to the pub lol. I play online during the night, i'm always awake until like 7-8am.

Yeah i know i should stop withdrawing, main reason i do it is to make sure i don't fall back into my old ways of playing blackjack with a lot of money in my account and losing it all lol. If i didn't withdraw or lose money at blackjack i'd be well rolled for 20-30nl no problem.

Well ok, I meant play more online, if you can find time to do that without ditching the pub league then that's all good.

Set volume targets, try and play as much as possible. Something like 4/5 hours per day, 6 days a week for 2 months. See how you do and how you feel after that.

If you can't trust yourself to leave a modest 20nl bankroll in your poker account how are you going to play with 5 grand?

Something to work on over the next 364 days!

Yeah good idea i'll keep that in mind, and i guess i can trust myself now to be honest it's just a habit of withdrawing lol. I got a special request on titan that allows me to still play poker but have my casino games disabled, it took a while to sort that out since it used to be the poker would be disabled as well as the casino games, so even if i wanted to there is no way i can possibly go back to losing on blackjack haha.

What is it about poker that makes a difference? Working life can be incredibly varied and wherever you start there is always a path upward which becomes easier to achieve the more you enjoy your work.

I wish you all the best, but personally I'm not a fan of getting bankrolled by mum to see if I can spin it up into a sustainable wage. You'll need to be honest with yourself about the rate of progression you're going to need to say become independent in the next 10 years or whatever, allowing for variance and acknowledging that the vast majority of players go broke at some point unless they have very strict BRM. Life's much easier if you have steady income and a bit of a float to play with on top.

    GL.

Not just because Dohhhh wrote about strong opinions.

Grow up. Stop leeching of your Mum. I have been around here long enough to remember your previous diaries.
    Pretty disgusting stuff.

    Get a job.

Wish i had a penny for every person who's said that to me, then i could get the 5k myself lol. Not going to happen though, absolutely no chance. Poker is my only chance i have of living a life that would keep me happy, why should i do something that i don't want to do, that will depress me etc when i don't even need to do it right now lol?

    Oh Christ.

You do realise that in the grand scheme of things, £5k is nothing? If you worked for the minimum wage full time you'd have that and more within a year? Shouldn't be much to get depressed about by working hard and seeing the fruits of your labour. Living is expensive and depressing whichever route you go. Don't disappoint your poor old mamma.

i hope you make it as a pro skeg, as you know though its a pipedream for most. dont take this the wrong way but my advice to you would be to seriously go and see a doctor, if you have no urgency to do anything in life apart from play cards then i think you could be depresssed and it will only get worse if you dont seek help, best of luck!!!

Not often that I agree with The Rocks but here he/she is spot on. You sound like you have serious life issues. So what happens if you're not good enough to make a living from poker? I know how difficult it is to get a job, but to write the world of gainful employment off like you seem to have, makes me sad (and angry if the country ever has to support you in terms of benefits)

What advice do you wan't, you're happy with your life, leaching of your mum, getting up at 4pm, not wanting a job.
If you make it to 40, and manage to get married you will have a lot to tell your kids about your life, if they see you.

ADVICE Just carry on living life to the full.
