ok currently watchin total player....lol......what is goin on? the mentor is talkin total rubbish and his picks and there plays are laughable!! even Rich Orford is tryin to restrain himself!! well only seen half the show so far so maybe it will improve!!
The hands that were shown were submitted by the players themselves. Even on those selections of hands, I think that we can agree that the right players got picked. The chosen three are all tremendous players and thoroughly deserve their selection.
In Response to Re: total player?????? : lol you saying im not normal?? Now stand on one leg, trousers by your ankles, and repeat the holy pledge lol Posted by loonytoons
lol,but seriously though- if it was going to turn out to be this predictable how on earth can THESWISS not be picked.
Its so hard to chose 5 specific hands guys that show off ur skills, it really is - And sending in a good lay down, is almost impossible, as when you fold, the other fella mucks, so u dont know if its a good lay down or not! - Gud way to find out I spose but it could look embarassing - N ur not gunna risk that! - Also looking thru ur HH is hard if u play alot.
But the fella picking the players will have looked through hundreds of hands from the players, not just 1 or 2.
Just a note when it goes to the section of the show where the emails are read out, the presenters seem to think its brilliant that the past picks are emailing in to support the nominated 10 players, an example of good community spirit? lol C'mon as if, U rekon if these guys hadn't had a look in they wud still be doing this?
They aint daft they know its a forum vote, its good advertising!!
I noticed a couple of previously picked players were on the MC tables last night, again, trying to impress the community with their play, playing outside of their normal game. Im sure one was an MTT specialist, who Ive neva seen at NL50, n the other plays higher than the MC table which was being covered, but again, its common sense and good tactical stuff in the long term.

Exactly what I was thinking while watching!! OK the top 50 are picked by Sky, and then the mentor picks the shortlisted 10 and the final 3 from that list. Why has he picked the players that he didn't like how they played. The most annoying thing about it was that ALL THE LOW STAKED PLAYERS only sent in hands (or the ones shown) were them flopping monsters where they are guarenteed to get paid. That doesn't show skill at all, thats just a cooler. The 2nd half of the show when the Higher staked players were being shown was much better. This in my opinion shows why the high stakes are rightly getting picked. They have a better understanding of what a "Good poker player" is. having Q10 vs KK and KJ on a flop of K,J,9 and getting it all in is not a good player, its a cold deck.
100% David made the correct decisions on the final 3, but im a bit disapointed at some of those getting into the final 10 when there are far better players battling so hard to get a place.
In Response to Re: total player?????? : Maybe the mentor thought it was a rubbish laydown cuz the other guy had 7 2. Posted by Seagull158
it wasnt about what the other play had, it was about been able to get off a big hand, the other played did have the straight and thats why i thought they might have shown this one for me

Maybe they didn't want to pick you and thought if they showed this hand, it would give them a more difficult decision to make when everyone has seen the excellent lay down, i always thought it was the players choice what 2 hands were shown, if it is not, then it wreaks of manipulation to make certain players seem better. I was watching your hands by the way, and when i saw your name appear i thought, good on yer, but to be honest the hands that were shown were very underwhelming so to speak, now i know it wasn't your fault, all i can say is unlucky!!
I'm pleased for Ben, but why have rules that there will be two high stakes cash players and substitute one for a mtt/stt player? Set the rules and stick to them, or have no rules.

I agree with solack, i think i can speak as a neutrual cause i was picked for pre selection for that show but turned it down.
They are not picking 1 from each section.
They are showing cash games specialists hands from sit and go hand histories and vice versa.
Last part here is not an insult i think ben is a very good player,i didn't analyze his play but the presenter didn't like the way he played 2 out of 3 of his hands 1 of them been in phils selection then picks him?
I know ben would of still got through on another show and deserves to and if you are reading it m8 and ur honest i bet you thought you were not grtting picked that night.
Is it me or did anyone else notice this?
Good luck to all of em but i agree with others who say the community vote is a joke and notice how all the players who never posted often are all of a sudden flooding the forums with posts.
im might of made history here , as i made ed's last 10 for the first week, then a guy who made the last 10 on last night's shown submitted a hu hand were he won 3 pounds off me , he flopped top pair and i flopped 2nd pair, he check raised me all in for 3 pounds lol and i called, ok im a fish.....ha ha
when i picked my 5 hands for the first show, i picked hands where i had to fire 3 barrels with nothing to get a guy to fold, as someone mentioned in the threads b4 it aint much skill to get paid when u flop a cooler is it!
only thing is i personally thing could of been done a little different is instead of the forum vote , the players actually went down to the studio and played off to a winner or something of the sort.
but overall any promo that gives you the chance to go to the wsop free has to get the thumbs up !!
Didnt realise ud made the top ten, gd stuff. I found it funnny last night when ur name popped up after watching ur vids yest. - And he was sat wi 4 quid to ur 30 odd, haha, I wunt av even bothered playing it.
I watched the show last night after initially planning on going out.
My truthful thoughts are - i was not bowled over by some of players choice of hand selections and when Phil and Thegrowler was selcted for Stts my heart sank a little as i thought i didn't make the 10 let alone the top three. When i was added to the last catergory i honestly thought i would have had a good chance at the top three now as Dave wouldn't have put me where a high stakes player would have been without reason.
My hand where phil bluffs me i thought was not all that bad...yes i may have flopped an open ender but no more money went in by me whatever so i didn't really lose more chips - if i bet out or called after the flop then i would agree.
Maybe two of the three hands were not so great but david has the final say and he must think he can work with me on improving. I'll say it now i really will be trying to win this thing as thats the way i am - but even if dave improves my game by the smallest of margins i'll consider it a sucess.
And for you people still saying it favours the high stakes players and somehow we know were beiong selected. You are 100% wrong. 70% of the final 18 may be "high stakes" players on this site but that because we have a slightly better concept of the game and thiought process into hands, the przies also afftect the mentors to. Hand on heart put your self in the the mentors position - which 6 would you pick knowing you could potentially make a tidy sum from 10% of thier winnings? And ased on last nights top 10 i think he made the right choice.

Hand on heart, id pick a nobody who i thought could have potential, and thought could be taught to win and that would have made a better programme - but thats not the point, its the fact that sky and all there mouthpieces who dont want to rock the boat are spouting off that anyone can win, if they were just a wee bit more realistic with there propaganda and admitted this then everyone would get behind the winner, i know i would.

ok second half was better, 3 very good picks! glad jakally got in
