Has anybody here ever played poker on a cruise ship?

edited January 2010 in Poker Chat

From next Saturday I will be absent to the Sky poker tables for over a fortnight as I'm off on a Carribean cruise.

Firstly, I would like to apologise to all the people who usually win all my money off me. Don't worry, I'll be back. :-)

Secondly, has anybody here every played poker on a cruise ship? If so please let me know what I can expect. Any tips would be great. Our ship is called Destiny (we are going on a Thomson cruise, mainly Brits onboard). I was delighted to read that our ship has a casino that has roulette, blackjack, poker, etc. There's no way I will waste any money gambling, but I'm looking forward to having a game or two on the poker tables while we're at sea. I have only ever played poker online, I've never even visited a bricks and mortar casino, so it will be a totally new experience for me.

Cheers.

I was on a cruise a couple of years ago and they had the normal $1/$2 tables etc, but what I like the look of was the electronic poker tables since it was more like online poker which I had played.

Hope this link works so you can see the type of tables they had on a Carnival cruise ship...

Gary  yes  I played  on a  Poker Caribbean Cruise this was set  up by  a well know bookmakers poker room, some players and presenters here were  on that trip 3 years ago ..
Im not sure who has set this poker cruise up but, on these cruise liners they all advertise a casino on board, it's possible the poker might be machines or dealers on casino Caribbean poker tables.. You might find if you want a live game with  6 -8 players you might have to organise it between yourselves .. glk enjoy the trip

    From the brochure;

"Blackjack, roulette, poker, slot machines, our casino is like a mini Vegas. Plus, the croupiers run practice sessions and fun casinos so beginners can learn the ropes before playing for real."

I think I'll go along and be the clueless beginner.

    ;-)

Yes, I played on the same poker cruise as Benny Dip.
Tikay and Norman Pace were there too!

    Two things

    (a) it was awesome. The entire passenger roll was made up of poker players. It must have been the first cruise in history where the average age was under 100. Obviously, if Tikay hadn't been there that average would have come down even more.

    (b) the first night heading out into Caribbean waters was seriously choppy. As a result, everyone was being sea-sick and yet, still heading to the poker rooms to play! Addicts!

Within 5 minutes of sitting down I watched a player chuck up on the dealer in the middle of a hand. A case of all-out rather than all-in.

    Mmm, lovely.

    Funny though.

I went on a cruise last year on the Black Watch(Fred Olsen Ship). In the waiting area before boarding at Southampton i was surrounded by a sea of white hair. Talk about experienced ladies. What happens on a cruise liner stays on a cruise liner ;-)

p.s. I was talking to blackjack dealers in the casino & they said they used to work on the Black Prince(another Fred Olsen ship) & they said the last time they were on that 5 people died of old age during the two weeks on board. Quite a match for club 18-30.
