Greatest Main Event Achievement Ever?

Hi All,

Hoping you can help us settle an office debate.

We are debating what the greatest main event achievement ever is. We have 3 of us with 3 different opinions (of course you may think somebody else deserves this accolade).

The answer could be based around prestige, monetary value or against the odds. We have:

1) Dan Harrington 3/839 in 2003 and 4/2576 in 2004
2) Greg Raymer 1/2576 in 2004 and 25/5619 in 2005
3) Mark Newhouse 9/6352 in 2013 and at worst 9/6683 in 2014

Please vote below and if you want let us know why you have chosen what you have.

Tricky decision. If Newhouse can get a top 6 finish then I'd say Newhouse. Dan Harrington may have had smaller fields but he finished 3rd and 4th respectively. If Raymer made the last 18 in the 2nd one then I think it would be him definitely, but again finishing 25th is not that big of an achievment.

Newhouse. Bigger fields, much tougher fields.

As I undertsand it the the number of hold'em wizards playing in this tournament has increased exponentially over the last 9 years.

    Yeah certainly Newhouse.

To be so focussed for 7 days too is incredible in itself.

Got to be Dan Harrington for me. Anyone who ever read his books would realise he was possibly the only man in poker tighter than Tikay. To make one final table with that style is impressive - two almost impossible.

    Good old Action Dan...

Since they changed the starting stack from 10k to 30k, it become a much tougher field, gone are the days of a recreational player winning again.

    Newhouse for me.

Got to be Harrington everyone seems to forget he won the Main Event in 1995, he's also 1 of only 5 players to win both the main and a World Poker Tour Title ;')
