i'm not yet fully known against him but he is certainly an aggressive one and will put as much thought into my own range. i have got notes on him semi bluffing on streets and he did cbet with AK when it missed.

from what i have seen of him so far in terms of aggression it's difficult to see him holding any monster on this flop, so now i see the chance of stealing the pot away. My range of hands he will have now are most likely middle pairs AJ or AQ

I think its a shove here if you think your guy will fold a semi made hand. He is either playing a set like KK or QQ and has read your aggro or is being stubourn with AQ, JJ and 10 10. All bar the 10% orlf time he has set (which you would expect a value bet on river) should fold to a shove.

I would fear that calling all way along may mean they sigh call on river anyway

Much prefer either a 4b or a fold pre

Flop fine, although the check would make me a little suspicious

I check back turn. If you are betting and planning a 3rd barrell I would make it a little smaller

River I think I check back. Not too sure he'll fold much on that river getting decent odds

Fold or four bet IMO pre. By calling your rely on hitting your hand. If you hit an ace your either going to get into trouble or get a fold and miss value. By repping stronger you can easier get someone off AJ and less for fear of being dominated where just calling these hands would feel more obliged (and easier) to call and call smaller bet in a smaller pot.

As played I can't see you getting a bluff through other than an all in. And even then I think his range is tilted towards the strong range than weak. KQ, KK, QQ, 88, AQ are all hands that fit his range and play. AK c bets and I think J10 c bets and raises turn fearing the FD.

I probably think about folding, then look at the pot, realise I must have the second best hand, then shove as my only option to take down a chunky size pot!

Have you seemed aggro enough with 3-barrell bluffs that oppo would really c/c KK/KQ/QQ/JT/88 through all streets?  Wouldn't there be a greater chance he'd lead river and hope to get paid off by AK/KJ/AQs sort of hand that could feasibly be your holding and may be more likely to check behind...

On that basis, maybe his hand is a bit more marginal and could be put down when a lot of your potential holdings could have the better of him here....

on boards like this i'm thinking he will consider very dangerous to totally bluff and hoping i semi bluff wouldn't really get any more value than what a call would. so i attempt a jam on the river and i was called.
what hand do you think he has?

3b pre and call down... I'd guess AQ

unless they've passively played a reasonable pair like JJ or TT that they couldn't let go.

AQ a lot of the time.

Fwiw just give up on this river. Q is one of the worst cards in the deck for you to bluff.

your raise from the button could be a steal attempt(how often had you been opening from the button)so his range could be wide for 3betting.

going on what details you have given some hands he could have  Q x of spades , k 10 or 9 suited , k j  88,

for me it depends what your table image is. would he expect you to fold if he donk bett the river, in which case he could have a monster and be hoping you fire again, hard to say without knowing his percieved image of you,
