Who remembers "the originals"?

When I first started playing on Skypoker the site had just opened. A few of us logged on looking for a game, and it was like a deserted Wild West town. Tumbleweed was blowing through the site because there were so few of us here!

I think only about 8 of us logged on that first day. It's probably fair to call these "the originals". From memory there were:
Norman Hale (of Hale and Pace fame)
Bitesaund
Bigsteve42
Jakally
BigBluster (me)
Nutter5932
GeesBee

and a couple of others. I think we even pre-date TK and Orf!

If anyone remembers the old days, please put down your anecdotes. It's nice to reminisce now and again.
I'd also like to hear about other "originals" that I can't recall, and what has happened to some of those mentioned.

BB.

I joined around april 07 (after i'd been playing on party poker with a play money account for around 4 years before I was legal to play in late 06) back in the days where the 9pm tourney was almost always the televised £11 open and started to fill out with max entries every night and primo was £55 once a month.. Velocity also had a lot more importance than it does now! Used to love tuning in to watch hells bells every night 9pm after the club! Enjoyed battling for the all important spot prizes given out through good play or sending in emails to try and win entry into the sunday showdowns!

I wouldn't class myself as an original as it was only back in september 07 when I was hitting the tables of a lot more and seemed to be cashing like clockwork in the open for a few months.. usually getting k/o'd by the swiss on his way to winning them like clockwork!!! missing out on the final table finishing 7th-20th on countless attempts and picked up 2 nice primo cashes the highest being a 20th place for £280 back in december 07... (finishing 20th now doesnt have the same rewards! although lately I cant finish top 100 never mind in the cash!)

One of the best nights in I had was on the night of Hatton vs Mayweather when sky run several MTT's where it was £5 and 1 in 3 cashed to be able to buy the fight via box office.. which they should do more often!! That was a good 15+ hour session! (poker, friends, drink, comedy dvd's and sport on tv, pizza and other takeaway food topped off by a good boxing contest on the box!... Highly recommended!)

Don't get me wrong I like the fact sky has moved with the current trends with bounty hunter and made primo a weekly event and has introduced omaha, but it's not really my cup of tea.. as to me primo is losing it's special factor... and i'm not really a fan of bounty hunter!

The best introduction by far has to be the SPUKT on it's 2nd season.. I didn't play as much as i'd liked to in 08/09 and missed out on the SPUKT events.. But enjoyed Manchester and hoping to make the journey upto Newcastle tomorrow.. weather permitting!!

I remember food ratioining (eggs, butter, etc), & I well remember NHS Powdered Milk. I've still got some somewhere I think - it came in big white tins.

Here's one for you- does anyone remember in the early days of the channel that whenever somebody in the studio got knocked out - sirens would blaze and lights would flash!

Lol- the novelty of that soon wore off, let me tell you...

I also joined the 2nd week i remember myself and Don Logan locking horns a few times, the one player i remember most of all was Toonoo he or she just disappeared after dominating the 25p/50p cash tables for about 18 months.

Anyone remember Jonny Gould? Think he was one of the first analysts on the show. Oh and Carlo CItrone with the permanent tan!

This thread will get me all tearful and emotional..............

Started playing late Feb 07...........some old guy over at Blonde Poker mentioned SkyPoker one or twice (every day....)

Some of the  players I remember from earlier on, al873kill, Sharksbite, Repossess, No Deal, OCDPOKER, SIMUK, Elnino, bogus1, cottlad.
(My memories not great so some of these may have come a bit later on).

Open used to get 300 - 350 players when I first played.
Must've been easy then, cos even I managed to have a couple of decent tourney results ;o).

I remember the live show where Jacqui Degg and Peta Todd were the guests....

Come to think of it, I'm sure I have that on sky plus somewhere ;-)

Nice to see some of the names mentioned...cottlad, quietman and others. Ahhhh, takes me back. And the flashing lights....

Does anyone remember 'discomonkey' from the early days? If you go to sky 166 (they'll shoot me for this!) he's the analyst there. He was certainly no better than me and used to get his backside kicked by bitesaund who was the best MTT on the site at the time, and by a mile. But disco still got plucked out for a lucrative TV job. Good luck to him
Wonder what bitesaund is up to now? I wouldn't mind crossing swords with him now that I'm somewhere in his league.
