Coffee and energy drinks...

Is having a coffee or energy drink is good or bad when you play poker?

Obviously it will differ for each person and there's a seperate debate on health etc but do you consider them a help or a hinderance whilst playing poker?

A coffee half hour before i start for the night definitely helps my game, but the thought of drinking lots of energy drinks or coffee whilst playing would definitely hinder your decision making ability.

I definitely had some of my best sessions when I'd consumed too much caffeine so I guess it has to help in the short term...

But then it makes it harder to sleep (given most of my poker is in the evening), which means the next day my poker is terrible because I'm tired (unless getting back into a constant cycle of large amounts of caffeine!).  So not sure it's always the best idea in the long term, for me at least!

Coffee yes, energy drinks no. Way too much sugar in them.
