In Response to Re: Hijacking another thread : Jokes are jokes, whether you think they're funny or not. He's asked for life advice - I was preparing a response. Posted by Slipwater
Totally incorrect.
If you was to "joke" with someone - and they so happen to have a particular reason to take offence from the comment, if you work, and are at work in a large company, very likely result in a disciplinary or even dismissal.
If done in public - and they hit you - they can claim duress and provocation
So online - expect a response you will not like
I think you need to be clever with your "jokes" as not many people know you on here - so when you jump straight in being sarcastic, then follow that up with further inappropiate jokes - you will get ctiticised
In Response to Re: Hijacking another thread : I asked him a question, Paige. It's always best to ask an old lady if she wants help crossing the street before you grab her arm and start dodging the traffic. Now, Judge... wipe this thread and start a new one. It, er, ain't got off to a great start. Posted by Slipwater
see i find this post funny, yes i need help crossing the road because i am old,and need to dodge the traffic.just you wait till you get to my age you slipwater,:):)

In Response to Re: Hijacking another thread : Firstly: you cannot presume to know that Judge took offence at my post any more than I can claim to know that he didn't. He hasn't said one way or the other, so let's leave the mind reading skills to those who know how to do it properly. Secondly: as I said earlier - the sarcasm (I believe) came from both sides. My initial post was (obviously) sarcastic, and Judge's follow up post was too, so make sure you paint us both with that brush, thanks. Thirdly: I don't need you to tell me the definition of the word, or for you to parade the sarcasm-is-the-lowest-form-of-wit mantra, that people always use in these kinds of discussions when they have nothing of any intrinsic value to add. I left this thread, and I thought you had too. I made a couple of throwaway comments hours ago and you've grabbed on to them like you don't know how to let go. You've said on two occasions you were leaving this thread, so, you know, do it. Posted by Slipwater
I said exactly that an hour and a half ago. "Anyway, slipwater, I am sure we both have better ways to spend our time rather than speculating on the innermost thoughts of the OP."
2. I am bound to say that I have not discerned any glimmer of sarcasm on the OPs part in his follow up post.
3. I think a reminder of the definition of sarcasm was somewhat timely. If you accept the definition, then it rather contradicts your subsequent explanation in a number of posts.
4. I was quite happy to leave this thread some time ago. However, Paige was clearly unhappy with your explanation, and as you have continually tried to rebut the argument, I think it only right to balance the thread by use of a contrapuntal viewpoint.
In Response to Re: Hijacking another thread : Why did the chicken cross the road? It's a joke. I don't find it funny. Do you? Posted by Slipwater
Haha
Yes that is correct version of a joke as 99% of people will know that - however - it is still not a "joke" for the person it's aimed at if they do not understand - not about being funny or not. Many "jokes" are not funny - but understood its contex
FWIW, I am not taking sides on this - I know what you are like and enjoy reading your input - so for me - I see that there was no offence meant - was light hearted banter. I also agree that people attacking you have no need to due to the fact they are fighting a battle that is not there, yet......
I think best bet is to resist temptation to reply fella - I know you will win with words haha
Tsarina, your supposition that Judge is upset by my initial comment is rather insulting to his intelligence and ability to work the sentiment of my out for himself, don't you think?
And if his follow up comment is not sarcasm then he does want life advice... but do you genuinely think that was a real request?
I think your sarcastic-o-meter is on the fritz.
This thread is giving the statue a run for its money.
In Response to Re: Hijacking another thread : It's only a joke if so perceived and understood by the recipient, which it clearly wasn't judging from his response. Sigh Posted by tsarina
That is why I mentioned the chicken, which makes it entirely relevant.

It's not about winning or losing, Paige. Tsarina just wants to denounce my solitary comment without having spoken to the Judge for clarification as to his position on it all.

That sort of condescending comment rather exemplifies how you far too easily slip into condescension or sarcasm with others who you consider to be inferior.
I imagine you must find it awfully difficult to cope with the reality of successful female poker players, or women who hold positions of power.
Wake up, Slipwater, This is the twenty first century. Women and people from all backgrounds are no longer excluded from success and positons of power.

If memory serves me corrrect, you won the PRIMO a few years back, right? Top work.
You & I had a convo a while back about horseracing, too, we discussed, I think, the great Tingle Creek, so I'm interested to hear more about your time working as a "lad" in the Racing Stables.
How long ago was that? Do you remember the Stable Lads strike, when the Guineas meeting @ Newmarket was terribly disrupted, riots on the course, all sorts?
interesting how tiara girl has switched sides and become the smoking alien of this thread. imho banter is good, abuse is not, but I don't think slippy has crossed the line.
meanwhile best of luck Judgy, with your challenge.
I know my english isnt what it should be,and yes i,d probaly could do with some help with the correct grammar.
however if everything was grammatically correct, well that would not be a true reflection of myself.
My intention was to try this challenge, and let the sky community know, how it was going,i have tried to use humor,as that reflects me as a person. Now in the posts, i have also tried to explain how i played the hands and why,and most important what my own thoughts were.Yes there will be many, incorrect spellings, not the correct use of the queens english, but hey thats me.
Yes TK i did win the primo, and have been at the final table of a few M.E,and cashed several times.
I havent played on this site for over ayear now, down to stupidity(is that correct),could u believe it ,i thought i was better than i was,so couldnt really handle bad beats, only because i was probaly playing, outwith my bankroll. well anyway i m back.
I am hoping to learn discipline from this challenge.
Tingle Creek what a horse, it was ridden every day by H thomson jones head lad,Fred Flippance (what a truly decent man he was)
Oh yes feed back, yes all is welcome,be it on my poker, grammar, spelling or anything else.I do not offend easily
Basically i would welcome any feedback on my wee ,if they are funny or not,and how i could improve them stories.
So keep reading, and all help with any ideas that u might have.

Extraordinary story.
Here's Willie Carson, being pulled off his mount down at the starting gate. Piggott was involved, to, he "charged" the strikers.
Have you got any views on who will win this weeks St Leger?
Good luck with the Bankroll Challenge.
way too straight, Teeks, the tracks this thread are on look more like (not being gifted with insta-photo I've had to sketch it out myself)
