    Wow.

What's truly flabberghasting is that it really looks like he and the rest of the German team actually thought it was funny and showed they had a great sense of humour.

If I had been the German captain when he came over to "discuss" his hand, I would have slapped him in the face with a wet fish.

    CORNILS should be ashamed

such an awful thing to do.. waste his team's timeout that they might need later and put the Canadian through that horrid slowroll

    a disgrace

Well yes Chompy, but at which point did he ever think this "joke" would go right?

I watched what your on about on tv the other night.  I haven't watched the link so not sure if its on there but they interviewed the german captain a few minutes later and he said that the team called the time out because it was an important hand and not the player.  Looked on the tv as if the player turned around and called it though.  In fairness though I cant think of any reason why the player would have called because that was thier only time out allowed.  Suppose the player should have just carried on.

Yes you can understand the captain calling it, not knowing the hole cards.

But the player at the table is clearly shown calling for it, so he should have ignored his captain if that was the case and just called quickly and saved his team's timeout.

I can assure you it was Cornils, not the captain who called the TO.

Jan (a genuinely nice guy) was trying to take the heat off his player by being "economic with the truth" after the hand :-)

    Rough translation of conversation backstage...

    JAN: What do you have?
    CORNILS: Aces.
JAN: So, why the **** have you called a time-out?!?

I trust this was swiftly followed by some serious cod-on-face action.
