when to raise or just call?

Hello , new to sky poker and at the moment i am pondering in which situations would it be best to check or raise. I know how to play and when to raise with a good hand or to see where you are at, to c-bet or to bluff but when would it be best just to check as i see this as looking weak, unless obviouly to slow play. Any ideas?
