double talk and one eyed reasoning. 

Just noticed this from TommyD.

One eyed reasoning might seem like a bad thing,

but it worked for Columbo ;-)

    I think Slippy has hit it right on the head though!

    Maybe Tommy was thinking of them more as one eyed Willies rather than Columbos.

    Not sure if I should close this thread or just weep quietly in the corner.

    Oh and just one more thing, Columbo was the nut worst TV Detective ever.  He never had to solve the case, always the first person he spoke to from the witnesses was the murderer.  Luckiest run ever.
