I say let the player drawn at home be the one to choose the structure,.. im sure if you are drawn against a heads up reg then you would want to pick hyper to reduce their edge. and if you are a heads up pro im sure you would want the normal structure to reduce the chance of a cupset! Sorry Mumsie, you'll have to wait a while yet. However you can always arrange a few pre-season friendlies.
Thinking about the scheduling....
1st Round proper is 7 Nov.
Therefore I think all 1st round games should be finished by that weekend so that the draw can be made the following Monday and fixtures complete by the weekend of the 2nd round etc.. up to the Final on 21st May.
Therefore I think the draw for the 1st round should be made no later than the weekend of 24th October when the 4th qualifying round is made. If we get a full 256 signups earlier then we can start earlier as obviously its the 1st round that has the most fixtures to get through.
I'm open for some sort of home advantage re game setting as long it's not too broad a remit - remember that the "big teams" can get drawn at home too and the simpler the rules the better for all.
Maybe as per the FA cup the semis and finals should be neutral with no home team advantage and maybe up them to 1st to 5 wins? By then there may be some added prizes so they should be earned.
Happy to let the debate flow for a while and see if there is a natural consensus on any points before finalising a set of rules by the end of September.
You need to leave as long as possible for week one as there will be more games to be played. You could make up the time later on. A weekend is definitely not long enough
FYI, I ran a few of these a few years ago. Just thought you might find them useful, and it might also give you an insight until how long it can take sometimes for people to arrange a game...
@Lambert: Thanks for digging those out I will have a good browse.
@Boxster: There definitely will be a time limit. I am hoping the FA Cup will drive the schedule. I agree with @Flash that the 1st round is going to be the hardest/longest. If we do start on 24th October that only leaves 2 weeks until the 7th November so ideally need to be starting the beginning of October..
The sooner we can start the better, maybe I'll be surprised and we'll fill 256 pretty quickly. If not then maybe looking at the schedule and being a bit nehind the FA cup schedule but catching up by May should also be possible.
I am open to both players being scratched unless one can prove that they have made every effort to arrange a fixture and the other couldn't or wouldn't play. Hopefully won't need to get draconian on that especially as it could get messy and if someone can't play they just declare as much and give their opponent a walkover.
@Mumsie unfortunately the Phantom houselhold does not hold a broadcasting licence, but I may record it and upload it to YouTube.
edit:hadnt seen Lambert180 had already done that! I cant promise a glamorous assistant though.
Count me in Phantom, not my expertise but sure I can be the non league team that everyone is scared to play incase I might cause a big shock! Ger Posted by gerardirl
