Any suggestions on how to de-stess/de-tilt?

Hi Guys

Yes I'm probably the last person that you think would be asking this question - sigh.

But during last 3 days felt very stressed/tilted by a few things. Now I'm just running really bad I know it's variance and will change with time.

I'm usually pretty good with tilt but I've been struggling last 3 nights. Guess its a number of reasons. I feel ok now and have been playing well again but just want to know...

What do you guys do to de-tilt/de-stress?

All Suggestions welcome!

Cheers James

I've been watching the two 2.5/5 cash tables for about an hour now and saw how bad you got. I use to be a lot worse tbh and I think its because the money affected me losing and I didn't understand variance.

If your properly rolled for the game your playing which I'm confident you are then its inevitable your going hit a bad streak which could be days...weeks or months ! I had this a few months back and its probably made me a better player for it to.

As soon as I feel a little bit of tilt coming on now I pick up my pillow and smash the **** out of it it ha ! rather than tilt shoving or doing some weird fancy play that back fires. Get a stress ball/man around your set up and take out the anger. I'm sure you understand variance a lot more than me and just have to accept it part of the game no matter how annoying it gets.

errrm i generally play through it if its only like an hour downswing... if its longer i maybe change what im playing to freshen up, take a break for hour or so and come back... or if its really bad take a day or so to rethink... also helps discussing hands with someone else incase its poor play not bad luck (unlikely the last one applies to you lol).

I'm not one to list bad beats but it depends if you consider losing a £2k pot with Top set (KKK) v Aces Allin on the flop bad luck. Or perhaps a £1k pot with 33 vs KQ, allin on a turn of J-10-3-2 I'm no genius but I doubt this was bad play tbh. After this happend for about the 5th time the volcano erupted. I am only human afterall. Saw Sparce tilt like crazy too.. but he's just got a gift HU on 10/20! I'm pretty sure thats gonna de-tilt him well :-D

Problem is mate, that the competitive edge that makes you a good player, is also the same trait that leaves you a bit prone to occasional tilt.

You show me someone who never tilts, and I will give you someone who is unlikely to have the personality to play successfully above a certain level.

    Some suggestions :
    • play more omaha - it's a good release, and puts holdem swings into perspective. Also a gd source of potential profit for someone with your ability.
    • check out your bankroll - in your case guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
    • think of all the donks like me who have to get up in the morning to go to a proper job. When you have finished doing this, take the smug smile off your face, and GFY.
    • go for a walk. Even better if its blowing a gale / tipping it down. You against the elements, and not an AK vs QQ to be seen.
    • ask me to play HU - always willing to help out a player on monkey - tilt.
    Hope this helps. ;o)

great post, i also found playin low stakes omaha great, losing with quads twice in one day makes you laugh.  also looking at your profit makes you say 'oh well, i am good'
'going for a walk in the wind' many years ago i lost £3500 in a casino (wheel of death) i still had money on me, but chose to punish myself with a 5 mile walk home, i have never touched that stupid spinny thing since and never will.

Can't get any of the regs to play me atm - as soon as you sit down with a full stack and 3-bet them once they run a mile.

Have you watched 2months 2million? They have an anti-tilt room where they smash up water melons and stuff with baseball bats. I want one of those.

Bumhunter site... once you play $5-10+ you can usually get action off all regs!

There was a great piece of dialogue between Neil and Vivian in The Young Ones (well before your time but I hope you've seen the episodes)
Neil "What's good for a hangover?"
    Vivian "8 pints of lager!"

So, two suggestions to de-stress 1. Watch The Young Ones, 2. 8 pints of lager!!!!

    James,

One by one, you are eliminating the leaks in your game.

Tilt is next on the list.

You & I know EXACTLY why you tilted, & who tilted you.

Learn from it. Don't engage with them. Rise above it. You know it makes sense.

And you know I love you.
