heres an interesting hand in the main event satelitte, I consider the villain to be a very good player, TAG. im 17/25 with 21 getting a seat and 22nd getting £6.60 (not of interest to me), do u think i should be calling here and attempting to all but garuntee my seat, or is the fold going to be thre right one in the long run?

Hi RLT, I'm no expert but here's my take on it.

If you have him as TAG then he has over cards, over pair or possibly under pair. I reckon your flipping. Have you come this far to be happy to flip for it? If you fold are you better than 50% to go through?

You have just gone through the blinds so have time to look for a better spot and obviously want to get it in first.

I find it hard to fold a pretty hand but I think you did the right thing.

I'm interested in everybody else's thinking.

If villain knows what he's doing (and he probably does), then his range here is potentially quite wide as they will be aware your calling range for 80% of your stack is so narrow in a sat, and the SB is locked for a seat and just won't/shouldn't be getting involved.

Little details like the other stack sizes at the table, and if this is towards the end or start of the 2/400 level would be useful.

If the blinds go up next hand, this is a more desperate shove, whereas if they have just gone up you can maybe give them more credit for a hand.

If you're 17/25 then I'm guessing they'd be 21/25? So they are in need of chips but not on life support. Think a fold is good here.

I think a fold is good/best here, even more so if they're decent/TAG. People can and do fold down a little lower than might be normal in a satellite, especially close to the seats so I wouldn't expect him to be jamming hands like A5s etc. Think we're gonna see the odd underpair maybe just 77-99, but alot more often we'll be crushed v OPs or flipping, both of which are great for the rest of the field and terrible for us.

I think if the opponent's a good tag he's going to be wider than people are suggesting and your tens are in good shape vs what he has. That being said we only have to finish in the top 21 and we're 17th/25 I think if we fold here we can get a seat fairly often. I guess it depends how often you get the seat by folding, compared to how often you call and win and get a seat, and call and lose and get a seat. So if you think your tens have 60% v his range, 60% of the time you you call and win and lock up the seat pretty much 100% of the time, the other 40% you call and lose and sometimes win a seat but probably not too often, and if you fold you'll probably win a seat a good amount.
Overall I don't think this would be a big mistake either way and might depend on how short other people are in the satellite. I would lean towards folding but i'm not a satellite expert I could be wrong.
