Could I have played this hand better?

Saturday Main £33 bounty. I was doing well and ahead of average stack. Could I have played this differently? Should I have just checked the river or would that be missing value in most cases? Should I have called it off? Especially when the A hit I thought that there were plenty of 2 pair hands or sets that would shove or would they have been more likely to just check it down? Look forward to your help. Hope its posted OK.

Thanks for taking time to comment. I thought so but I do think we too often put hands down as coolers when we actually could have done better.

No, you played it right - overbet turn and you could miss value - river card he has one holding that beats you - if the Q came on turn and he bet and you made your straight on river, then you might have folded. Otherwise - how can you fold?

The call on the flop may indicate he is on a straight draw, you bet out with two hearts and he just smooth calls which i think really disguises the strength of his hand.  I even think on the river if you check and he bets small to mid size bet you would have been justified in shipping it......

I think overall it would still be a hard one to get away from....

    Verdict - Cooler!

Whatever about flush draw, that board is like an optical illusion where you forget an Ace high draw is a possibility unless you really look at it. It is not like a Q J K flop - total cooler, and you bet right for value. Betting for value means you will lose sometimes but gain in the long term. I'm sure that soothes the anguish you feel :D

Thanks for all the feedback guys. As I said just wanted to check that I wasn't missing anything. I think too many 'coolers' are put down as such but a better analysis sometimes shows that they could have been avoided.
