new joiner, a bit lost

Hello all

Just a bit confused, I have just joined and am a total newbie.

I wanted to try a few free games to build confidence, I have the joining bonus points ready to go, but I can only find two free games where people are playing. both are for the full thousand points.

When I inevitably lose all the free points will be lost.

So is it the case that I have to start playing money games straight away and get just one brief free game?

    Hi and welcome
May be worth just opening up a couple of tables and watch and get to see how software works.

    Good luck

    Welcome aboard Soggy.

Personally, I'm not convinced "Freeplay Tables" really teach us much - poker needs money to make it work, without money, it's hollow.

I'd learn the hand rankings, read some "Poker for beginners" stuff, or Videos (there are plenty on Sky Poker Academy), then deposit £10 or £20 & give it a whirl at the lowest stakes. Don't play poker if you are scared, or can't afford to lose, that £10 or £20. It's that desire not to lose that money, but to double it, which makes poker the game it is.

Here's a few basic beginners pieces, have a read, then come back to us with any questions.

    Game types are HERE

When you've had a look at that little lot, I'd strongly recommend you spend a month playing Double Your Money's. These are the PERFECT way to learn how poker works, & are the lowest variance (least risky) form of poker. Your money will go further, & last longer, in DYM's when you begin playing. Play somewhere between 100 & 200 of those over a few months (they don't last long, so you can play several every session), then you're ready to branch out into other formats & game types.

But please don't even start playing poker if losing your money is beyond your means, or you don't want to lose money. Even the best players in the world have losing weeks & months.

Good luck, & come back to us if you have any more questions.
