Unmuckable hands

I might be ostracised like Edison's talking dog for bringing this up, but why when a hand goes to a showdown and the losing player(s) muck their cards can they still be seen via the hand history?

    Nope. It also says "Mucked"

But what's the point of giving the losing player the option of mucking (i.e. not disclosing) their cards when they can still be seen by looking in the hand history?

I said it doesn't - Hand History does not show the cards if they muck.

It does when all the community cards have been dealt and the hand has gone to a showdown.

The main reason is for collusion detection etc.

You can technically request to see an opponents cards live but the theory behind it is you should only do it in an attempt to detect/stop cheating. eg someone soft playing the river against a friend or mucking the best hand to help someone else etc.
