Why is the prize money so unevenly distributed?

I think the prrize money is too uneven, the player who finishes first gets a massive sum of money compared to the other players, for example in a 3 pound scary, first place got 9 pound second was 3 pound. I get the idea is to reward players coming first, but I have never seen a site with so much given to first place. It's pretty harsh when you play well enough to get to heads up and all you get is your money back. Surely it would better if say first was 7.5 and secpnd 4.5. Anyone else agree?

    Top heavy prize pools are how tournies roll, that's the idea behind trying to accumulate all the chips. Last left gets the spoils.
