A mistake a lot of people make.

But you get back HALF the TOTAL RETURN not HALF the ODDS.

Example, a kindly bookmaker offers you even money each horse in a two horse race and they dead heat.

You have had £1 on each (although why would you do that is a good question, but for the sake of this example a £1 on each is what it is.

If they dead heat and you get half the ODDS that means that each would be 1/2 and you'd get back £1.50 for each, hardly fair to our kindly bookmaker.

Half the TOTAL return means you get back £1 for each as you should.

So if you back an odds-on shot and it only dead heats, you rightly lose money.

Another way of looking at it, is that it's as if the full odds were paid but to half the stake. It works out the same, half it before or half it after, whichever you prefer. :=)

    Hope this explains.

I will be having a pop at the Placepot at Thirsk today.

According to drawbias.com, as long as the ground is GOOD or better (ie not SOFT), then a HIGH draw is massively favoured over 5F and 6F.

Over 7F (Round a bend) LOW draw is favoured.

The bias is SO significant that I am hoping this will provide an edge.

We'll see, just thought I'd let you know.

    Cheers,

I have just found out that the Jackpot is at KEMPTON (AW)

Even though there is no roll over, the 10K Guarantee looks appealing in context of the race structures.

    However there are three downsides.

    1) The races don't look very competitive, BUT they are big fields, so chances of a BIG outsider busting us somewhere is quite possible.
    2) The first race is at 6.10pm and I am not sure if I will be back from the school run in time.
    3) It may be a bit late to get all the removers process done.

So, on balance, I think we'll give it a miss, but it was a very close call.

So just one selection please guys.

    Cheers,

My selection, FROLIC 6.40, has got WN (withdrawn?) next to its name and Non Runner in brackets. Do I select another or is it just hard luck?

Up to you, it either counts as a Non Runner, so no profit, but also no loss (selection just doesn't count)

But if you want to select an alternative, that's fine mate. :=) GL

Some tough meetings again tomorrow, so unless the Tote make another "unexpected" decision, like they did today, it should be a NO-GO.
