My general advice for anyone at a race meeting for the first time would be:
Bet smaller on a couple of horses each race to keep you in with more chances of having a horse in the frame.
If there are 8 horses or more definitely look to place at least one of those bets each way. In say an 8 horse race you are generally getting great value for your bet if the odds are in the 8 to 12/1 bracket, especially if there is a short price favourite.
If there are 16 or more runners then I would back 3 horses and at least 2 each way.
Through your sky bet account you can read all of the Sporting Life content the night before.
Other bookmakers include Racing Post content, or you can always buy the paper in the morning.
Haydock has a straight course for the 5/6 furlong sprints and a high draw (stall number) is generally an advantage.
The 7f is right on a bend and so a low stall number is favoured.
The 8f is further round the back of the course, but it seems the bias is towards high numbers which is surprising altough looking at the map maybe they can straight across to the start of the bend.
Any further than that and there shouldnt be any bias.
Generally not considered a great track for favourites so looking for "value" down the card may be a good strategy.
If you need any help understanding the above, happy to clarify. Or if you are past all of that and need more in depth analysis/solid tips wait for someone else to post!
THanks, guys. As usual Pantom gives solid advice and Alan gives the advice I am more likely to take. But will probs mix the two and buy RP tomorrow and get a pin.
