What do I do here?

Hi there,

This is the best example I have of this scenario;

I am struggling playing Premium pairs post flop and running into these types of scenarios where I am shoved on the turn or river.

In this hand I feel I should have made the re-raise a little higher maybe?  The reason I didn't was I was trying not to scare off a customer.  I would like to think AK/AA/KK/QQ would have re-raised all in pre so maybe he is calling here with 10's of J's?

The flop pretty dry and turn rules out the possibility of any flush draws but completes a straight for 45 suited or something just I find that highly unlikely to be played pre like that however at nl4 anything is possible.

Should I just be calling the all in here and if I am beaten move on the more I think about it I should, just with the suprise factor and the not much time to think my instinct says fold.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi Stretch,

Make your reaise pre flop larger, 3  times the initial raise is a good rule of thumb.

Betting the flop is really good, 50% is fine. You can even go bigger at this level as some one is really unlikely to fold any pair.

When he leads out on the turn All-in, it does look a bit scarey. A few gut shots came in 910 and 45, a couple of 2 pairs got there too. Would he overbet the pot x 3 with these holdings? Maybe, but overall it doesn't make a whole heep of sense. Certainly he might play  68 0r 78 this way if he feels you have a monster such as 1010+ as you 3 bet pre and will not fold to his jam.

But a lot of players with there good 2pair+ hands will want to check raise.

With out any reads on the player i would call the all in just because his line doesnt make any sense. It feels like he could have Ace 8 or K8 or 8x, he has just made a pair and is overplaying it.

The lead out over bet jam is an unusual line for sure.

Another thing you mention in your post is gut feeling, really trust your instincts when it comes to poker.

There is no right or wrong answer to whether it's a call or a fold with this hand, you just need to weigh up all the info available, including reads, and then make the decision. And yep you don't have a lot of time to think on Sky!

100% call vs a random (or vs most people) at this level.

If they have you beat then make a note of how they play 2p+ type hands.

Think you'll be miles ahead way more often than not in this spot.

I like calling here , for what larson and haitch says and also for note taking, I want to know what he bets out with in the blinds and what hes shoving with, rightly or wrongly.

Oh, if I ever do this, I have  the nuts, just so you know :/  .

Thanks for this, you are right I guess the worst case scenario he has been super loose and wins the hand and I have an opportunity to win my money back adjusting to his style.

Hi Stretch, Make your reaise pre flop larger, 3  times the initial raise is a good rule of thumb.

Thanks for this, I have made adjustments this evening and have found this has been more effective.  First of all getting more folds pre, and if they do call and you hit you have a nice pot to take down.

With out any reads on the player i would call the all in just because his line doesnt make any sense.

I didn't have any reads at all, and really feel I should have called. I don't suffer from Hellmuthian style tilt, but if I have had a few coolers which I have recently I start doubting my hands even with sets and straights etc.  I need to shake it off as still suffering a little.

And yep you don't have a lot of time to think on Sky!

I would love a time bank for those tough decisions that you need a little longer for.  Obviously don't want it to slow the game down but if you had 1 min every hour for cash that would be O.K I would have thought?

Thanks for your reply man, really appreciate it.

Yeah I feel you are right, his line didn't make sense and I should have called and if lost shrugged it off and noted it down for next time.
