What a brave man. Over 600 appearances & 150 goals, & yet we remember him best for his bravery kin the face of the dreadful racism that existed at the time.
It's guys like Cyril who helped reduce racism.
He was an MBE, too.
Note that in those days, footballers wore proper shorts, not those knee-length things.
"They've never disappointed me yet, and I suspect won't...I can't think of any other artist who's managed to do that for 10 years...I simply don't know what it is that I like about the Fall...He (Mark E. Smith) never takes the prevailing trendy attitude...I'm pleased that he does say what he actually thinks...The Fall are always identifiably The Fall, but they do seem to evolve." , John Peel
Ingvar Kamprad died yesterday. His initials are the IK in IKEA, as he founded the business.
He was one of the richest men in Europe, but was famously frugal.
Bit of a chequered past, problems with alcoholism & at one time he was clearly a fascist, though he later claimed that was the biggest mistake of his life.
IKEA is one of those rare businesses that changed the way we live. It's also one of those businesses which everybody moans & groans about, but is fabulously successful - think of, say, Ryanair or even Sky Bet. The more successful they become, the more the public claim to loathe them.

Pretty sad in some ways, but when you think how these guys lived, & their alcohol & drug habits, they did pretty well to survive as long as they did.
I doubt any of them have any regrets as to how they lived their lives.
I believe you must have had trouble posting that link - I found 2 of your posts, containing that Plymouth Herald link, in the Spam Box this morning.
To make up for that, here's a Wiki link, & a photo about a truly wonderful man. They don't make too many like him these days.

RIP Rick.
Bella always - in the nicest possible way - reminded me of Tommy Cooper.
RIP Bella.

The Blackpool & England stalwart, Jimmy Armfield, died yesterday.
A truly lovely man, & football is much the poorer for his loss.
Here he is turning out for England at Wembley.
Look at those shorts - proper shorts, them.
