Editing headaches on the Betting Threads

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 169,724

Guys,

I'm trying to sort out your Editing problem. The Techie guys are ready to help & assist, but we first need to know exactly what you need/want to Edit on a regular basis. Mainly, it seems, you want the ability to Edit the FIRST POST in a thread. Is that correct?

Generally, Edits can - at present - be made for ONE HOUR after posting, but there are other time options which could be pre-set or defaulted.

We will NOT be allowing unlimited time for Edits for a variety of reasons, but we may be able to create some exceptions for you guys.

So what exactly do you need, Edit wise?

I've also asked the Techies to see if we can ease the problem with copying Spreadsheets on here. I'll get back to you if & when a way can be found to make it more straightforward.

I have to be honest and say I don't know what the problem with spreadsheets is, but why not just post them as simple images which could be created using something like Windows Snipping Tool?

    Example -

We really need, say, StayOrGo or Vaigret (& I'm sure there are others) to comment on that.

We really are quite keen to solve any problems though, so any or all help & comments are appreciated.

On GO-LIVE days I do a merged list of naps and removals, if I could have an extra hour to edit it would be most helpful. Thanks Tikay.

So 2 hours in total would suffice?

    Hi tikay

In my case it would be helpful if the edit could be on any post for a day (24 hours) rather than anything less but will take whatever I can get.

I think Maxally would be the same. He would want to post the naps list probably night before and amend up to and including last race next day.

I struggle with technology as it is that way to complicated for me

    Hi,

Do you mean using Windows Snipping Tool? It's really easy mate (assuming you actually use Windows of course). It's used to 'grab' a section of your screen.

It's a standard feature of Win 7 - may even be on your taskbar as below

If not, just hit the Start button and start typing snipping in the Run box

When the tool is active you just use you mouse cursor to select an area on the screen to 'grab', and then you can SAVE the snip to an image file ready to upload here. So if you're looking at an Excel spreadsheet just launch the snipper and grab the section of the spreadsheet on your display, save and upload.

I also tried pasting directly from an Excel spreadsheet and my test automatically inserted an image of the data I pasted.

See below. The img src bit (red arrow) was created automatically after my paste. You could then remove the bit above that to save duplicating.

Once it's posted you end up with something like this (colours would be carried over too if you use them in the sheet). Any use?

    Nosy

Thanks for all your help, just realised I am on Open office not word now . Really appreciate your help but will get round my issues using the new system rather than delving deeper into other systems, I just cant cope with it.

Hi TK, thanks for the offer of assistance.

This is what we would like:

    1) Ability to update the Opening post and 2nd post indefinitely (On the charity thread, on poker chat, it's the 2nd post that contains spreadsheets with all the lastest standings etc, for the year, on here it's usually the first)
    2) On other posts a 24hr deadline for editing would probably suffice.
    3) The ability to post spreadsheets directly onto posts without losing formatting, I have tried various things, including using snipping tool, but no joy, although it may be me doing something wrong. If we paste it as a picture, does it need authorisation?
    4) It would greatly ease the burden if we can post spreadsheets directly in without losing formatting.

Obviously it has almost brought us to a halt, on both the Charity Thread and the Jackpot Syndicate. Unfortunately I am not in the best of health (nothing serious), but I am very busy and tired atm, so haven't been at my best in getting things to work with the new system. My IT days are clearly well behind me and I am struggling to find a process that will work for us, but if you can manage to arrange the above, it may give us a fighting chance.

Thanks for your help and apologies for any grumpiness I may show, just a little frustrated as it took a long time to develop processes that used the functionality of the old forum and appear to not be compatible with the new.

    Really appreciate your help.

    Cheers,

    Graham

    Hi Graham,

Could you email me an example spreadsheet that you're struggling to post properly and I'll take a look? I'll PM you my email address.
Happy to see if I can assist in getting it on here in the format you desire.

Graham did you try the Snipping tool ?, I did this with an older post,

Note for Graham (StayOrGo) - No, you do NOT need approval for pictures/photos/images now.

That was the easy one to answer. I'll look at the rest soonest.

    Hi Graham,

Got your email - this is my first test...

  • NoseyBonkNoseyBonk Member Posts: 6,184
    Graham,

The above was pasted directly from a copy of the SS you sent over.

I used the method I mentioned in my post at 14:36 above. Copy/Pasted into 'Leave a Comment', then I just deleted the whole 'paste' except for the img src bit which is automatically inserted by the forum software (right at the end of the post).

Wow, well done Nosey, that seems spot on.
