UKOPS XX - Review of Day 3

And a very good Monday morning to you. Unless, of course, you ran deep in one of last night's UKOPS events & never got to bed until silly o'clock this morning, in which case you'll be struggling to get to work on time this morning.

It is not in question, of course - Sunday night, no matter what site you play on - is THE big night for Online MTT's. There are no exceptions to this. There has been some traction towards making Tuesday a big night on some sites, though I'm not sure Tuesday is logical either.

Logically - to me, anyway - why is it not Friday, or best of all Saturday? The majority of us don't have to get up on a Sunday morning, except to pop to Tesco, go to church, or join Dog Bloke for a nice Sunday morning jog, so Saturday, to my mind, fits the bill best, or ought to.

So why is it that Sunday is the big night?

I think it boils down to one thing. Around 12 or 15 years ago - and in Online poker, that is an aeon - just after 'Stars set up shop, they introduced the Sunday Million. Poker was booming in those days, & right around the globe, poker players wanted to play "The Million".

Most of the poker sites available back in 2005 have long since disappeared, though of course 'Stars remains, & so does the Sunday Million.

So the reason, I guess, is tradition, if such a short period in relative terms can be called tradition.

If Online Poker were to somehow erase history, & start again today, what night of the week do YOU think ought to be THE BIG NIGHT?

Anyway, Sky Poker currently belong to Team Sunday Night Is The Big Night, & so last night saw the biggest Guarantees of the entire UKOPS XX - £65,500.

That included back to back £25,000ers, just 30 minutes apart, which is quite a stretch for Sky Poker.

Did it make the Guarantees?

Has Sky James still got a job this morning?

Does anyone care?

OK, as Pink famously sung, let's get this party started;

    Rick Trigg did a twitter poll and asked

    If it were up to you would the biggest day of online poker be on a Saturday or Sunday

    Had 128 votes and Saturday only just won with 54% which surprised me as Saturday would make more sense to me.

    Makes more sense sleep/work-wise but then people are more likely to have other plans Saturday night than Sunday

    Yes - I've changed the numbering system to match the UKOPS Event number. Not sure why I never thought of that before.

    UKOPS XX Event # 11 , £22 entry, £4,000 guarantee Bounty Hunter

    Needing 200 runners to cover, this one was never in doubt, a whopping 303 hopefuls polled up, so beating the Guarantee by over 50%. Bounty Hunters gonna Bounty Hunter. The same event in 2016 attracted....304 runners, so the haters will now tell us that Sky Poker traffic is not what it was. Meh.

    One name caught my eye down in 40th place - @lolufold. Anyone remember him? Early doors he was one of the big names on Sky Poker, great cash game player & superb MTT-er, too. He won several Sky Poker Viva Las Vegas packages, too, and in 2010, finished 21st in the WSOP Main Event for a third of a milly dollars. Appeared on Sky Poker TV regularly, too, as an analyst. Neil Channing always reckoned that lolufold was a really good player by any standards.

    image

    He was also a Member of Team Sky Poker back in the day, along with a few other reprobates. Can anyone name these five?

    image

    There were also baby cashes for @the_reflex, @SAXONTOM and @chedforbed, all of whom have multiple cashes in UKOPS XX.

    Stokey - @stokefc - cashed too, even though he plays better when bladdered on a Friday evening.

    @LARSON7 - a Glasgow Rangers supporter if I'm not mistaken - was 6th, whilst @DarkNeo1 in 5th was making a 2nd Final Table of UKOPS XX. @seadragon, a previous winner of the Mini, was 4th.

    @gac123 (3rd) won this exact UKOPS event a year ago today, when it had 304 runners, & since then he has taken down a Sheriff and a Gold Rush, too. Very good player.

    As chance would have it, runner-up @kettle9930 also won a UKOPS Turbo BH a year ago yesterday, and since then a Summit, Predator, & all manner of Turbo & Speed events.

    Our winner, @beefheart1 also has a Sky Poker CV to be proud of, taking down half a dozen or more decent events in recent years.

    Quality final table, that.

    UKOPS XX Event # 12 , £530 entry, £25,000 guarantee High Roller

    Sky Poker introduced these big buck High Rollers into UKOPS a few years ago, & they are always a bit of a sweat to make the numbers, as Sky Poker does not do too many £500+ events. In fact, I don't think many, if any, have missed, & last night this one, needing 50 to cover, managed 52 plus 7 rebuys, so it covered by almost 20%. Sky James said he was "never worried". Yeah, right.

    In 6th place was @f3nix35, whose last big win here was a Sharpshooter back in April.

    None other than Mr Ambo, aka @NChanning was 5th, after looking like he might just win it when they were down to 2 tables. Considering he was probably watching 4 or 5 NFL games on Red Zone & juggling scores of betting slips whilst playing, not a bad effort from the old fella. Old? You bet - he turns 50 on December 9th, & in a spooky coincidence, his business partner, Joe Beevers, is also 50 on exactly the same day. What are the chances of that? (Answer - not as great as you may think).

    Was Mr Channing pleased to come 5th? Just a bit. Here he is celebrating his 5th place, just after visiting his hairdresser.

    image

    @Monty15 was next, in 4th.

    3rd placed @jubb - a satellite qualifier - narrowly failed to win his 2nd UKOPS of 2017, after winning a £5,000 BH in the Easter UKOPS this year.

    Runner-up @stack_u has a minor claim to fame, having busted me with his Aces v my Queens at SPT Manchester. Last night, he was a spot away from his 2nd UKOPS win, having taken down the UKOPS Omaha jobbie this time last year.

    At SPT Manchester, he 3 bet me EVERY time I opened, & we had a ball. Given the dynamic, how could he have Aces there? Pfft. Lovely fella, to be fair. Lucky, mind.

    The winner? None other than @chicknMelt. I think most of you "know" Melty from the Forum. Genuine gentleman, very Sky Poker supportive, & a proper bloke. Some of the more successful players tend to get a bit up themselves, but Melty is such a lovely fella, & even when he has a constructive criticism to make, he does so politely. Poker would be a better place if it had more like him.

    He finished 4th in the £1,000 entry Sky Poker UKPC 6-Max at DTD back in 2014, in the event won by Leigh Wiltshire. Here he is pulling a bit of a mardy face on the way to that 4th place - he's the one on the right as we look. Bet this photo brings back a few memories.....

    image

    Well done Melty, thoroughly deserved.

    Footnote - did anyone notice that @MattBates, one of Sky Poker's most profitable MTT players - THE most profitable? - never played this? I'm guessing that's good Bankroll Management. If so, well done him. Or maybe he forgot. Not so well done.

    UKOPS XX Event # 13 , £110 entry, £25,000 guarantee Bounty Hunter Main Event

    Exactly 30 minutes after the £25,000 High Roller kicked off, the £25,000 Main Event started, so again, a bit of a sweat, but it got across the line with a bit to spare, with 235 entries & 36 rebuys.

    So £50,000 of Guarantee in half an hour was covered.

    Plenty of familiar names cashed in this, with several cashing for the 2nd or 3rd time, including @Bas, @The_Reflex @johnny_e, and not forgetting that tireless worker for Sky Poker Community & Charity, @StayOrGo.

    @chicknmelt, our High Roller hero, was 11th, and the nicely named @BooBooTheB 10th.

    9th was @RAKKKI. Exactly a year ago yesterday, RAKKKI won a UKOPS event, repeated the feat the very next day, & completed the hat trick of UKOPS wins 2 days later. Not sure anyone has ever won 3 UKOPS in the same series?

    8th was the consistent @TEDSON, & in 7th, @Max_Bear who won the UKOPS Main Event on Friday.

    @TheCrilly was 6th, this guy makes a habit of final tabling the Sunday Major.

    5th was young @devil_tear, a really nice guy who won a Sky Poker Punta Cana affair a few years ago, & was splendid company.

    4th was @_FWAM_ just behind @sam1234, who now has one of those weird Sharky graphs which go vertical at the end.

    Runner-up @GoldenARMS was making his 2nd final table of UKOPS XX.

    And now.......

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=042b-1L7jFE

    On Saturday, @kapowblamz won the Main Event, and of course the UKOPS Bracelet, & was chuffed to bits, saying he could now afford SPT Brighton, and coming on the Forum to ask when he might expect his shiny Sky Poker UKOPS bangle.

    Well now he has.....

    image

    image

    Yes - TWO of them on consecutive nights, back to back Main Event wins. He had to beat 140 & 234 runners respectively, so the odds against it happening were massive.

    Many, many congrats kapowblamz. That must put you top of this, too;

    image

    His Sharky graph looks positively ridic, too.

    What a weird game poker is. It teases us something shocking, but sometimes everything just falls into place & a player becomes unbeatable. Well done bud. Three-timer tonight?

    Well it certainly was not @Markycash, who just wrote;

    "well congrats Melty"

    Huh? What sort of sentence construction is THAT?

    It's been an emotional couple of days.... I'm shell shocked to be quite honest. Hopefully I'm not dreaming.

    Busy day today so might miss tonight's games. Need sleep too. Gives mattbates a chance I suppose!

    UKOPS XX Event # 14 , £11 entry, £3,500 guarantee Bounty Hunter

    This, really, is the Mini. More people on Sky Poker play the Mini than any other MTT, it's Sky Poker heartland. I should write more about this than any other event, but the trouble is I don't know the players well enough. These players are the very essence of poker, more important to the game than any others in my opinion. High Rollers come & go, but Mini players are intensely loyal. A fiver or a tenner may not sound much to some, but never forget it's a lot of money to some, a fiver is enough to buy a round of drinks, a tenner a 4 course meal for the family.

    Anyway, once again it obliterated the Guarantee, 509 runners nearly doubling the Guarantee. It's rare that Sky Poker worry about this one covering.

    Mini-Mini monies for @glencoelad, @ched4bed, @devil_tear, @LARSON7, @railtard11 & once again @BooBooTheB.

    Dog Bloke was 50th - he's crushing his duel with Groggs - just behind @gazza127, & my mate @Red-Dog was 35th, which is an all-time best for him. (He's useless).

    @kapowblamz - still on a high from his back to back Mains - was 18th & @jawzindawz 17th.

    @AgentAA88, who won the previous nights UKOPS "Mini" was 15th, & the Final Table Bubbler was @lyonsbob06 who won the opener on the previous night.

    In 6th was @RICH77777 and a spot ahead was @The_Ruiner who has played over 16,000 Sky Poker MTT's. Told you these guys were loyal.

    Next was @LePonch who took down a Sharpshooter last December, and third place went to @TUX198.

    Runner-up was @brinna12, a veteran of over 23,000 Sky Poker MTT's.

    Up top came @sheffwed for his or her biggest win in 8 long years at Sky Poker. Boy oh boy, I bet that felt good.

    Well done all.

    UKOPS XX Event # 15, £22 entry, £4,000 guarantee Bounty Hunter

    226 runners, needing 200, so once again, no sweat.

    Good old @Dollie was 25th, with @tsarina 24th, hotshot @heddoh18 20th, and the ever aggro @albania 19th. Was really pleased to see Albania pop up on the Forum yesterday.

    @mewillows was 14th, the puntastically named @icnoships 9th, & @beefheart1 (who won the evening's opener) 8th.

    Just missing the Final was @Mather14, who has 2 runner-up spots to his name already in UKOPS XX.

    @ash066pts added a 6th place to his 3rd place on Saturday.

    @LARSON7 was 5th. Here you go, just for him;

    image

    @EDTHEHAT was 4th, and @Excessive7 3rd.

    @neenio, closing in on £50,000 of profit in Sky Poker MTT's, was runner-up.

    And the winner.

    None other than the man who noted yesterday that he had amassed only 1 minor cash in 10 UKOPS XX attempts. As the kids say, he moaned it in.

    image

    I suppose congrats must go to Mr Bates, though I fancy it will be a while before he cashes again.

    UKOPS XX Event # 16, £55 entry, £4,000 guarantee Bounty Hunter

    At a steep £55, this one needed 80 to cover, & came in at 97. BOOM, that's 14 out of 16 of the UKOPS XX events have covered, with just 2 Mains missing. So far, that is, long way to go yet.

    @IrishRose nabbed a Bounty, well done Rosarie, and it gives me an excuse to post a photo which will bring back happy memories for many, including Rose, this was in Vegas last year;

    image

    Bounties also went to the likes of Dog Bloke, @loololollo, @RogueCell, @Tedson & @Barrie26. And, inevitably, that man @kapowblamz again.

    @Sharki0 continued his fine UKOPS XX, and there was a min-cash for the popular @The_Reflex.

    @ched4bed made his 3rd final of the series in 6th, just behind Doncaster's finest, @Granite89.

    High Roller winner @chicknmelt finished the evening with another nice cash in 4th, with @Lukatarr 3rd.

    Unbelievably, @MattBates proved the value of moaning it in, with a 2nd place to follow his win in the previous event. When that boy runs good - which is most of the time - he's unplayable. You have been warned.

    Finally, for his biggest ever cash in 6 years here, take a bow @shayler.

    So there it is, 6 more UKOPS events, all the Guarantees covered, the software was nice and stable, & there were some popular cashees. Love it.
