Hi guys, facilitating the 70% participation on the yearly tables is very tricky and often causes spreadsheet errors.
Most NAPs leagues count it as a £1 loss if a selection is not made on any one day. This would clearly disadvantage those that are unable to post selections everyday. As we are running this 365 days a year, I think this is a bit harsh.
So as a middle ground we will do the following for BOTH YEARLY TABLES (IE GO-LIVE and COMBINED) in 2018.
For January and February of 2018 all NAPSTERS results will be recorded on the yearly sheet with no minimum number of selections required to earn a spot on the actual table.
However from 1st March 2018 onwards any player that is, or drops below 70% participation will be removed from the table and their results will no longer be recorded from that day forward (You have January and February to get a decent number of selections on the board, and then it is your responsibility, if you want to participate/be a contender, to make sure you are always over the 70% threshold.)
This is not me being mean, it is that implementing the threshold on a daily basis has been causing errors. Ie one day someone drops below it, and then they cross it again, makes the sorting of tables more cumbersome and error prone.
This still allows significant flexibility for holidays and times when people are unavailable, without penalising them -£1.00 for each day they don't select a NAP. (Unless you are away for 3 weeks or more in Jan/Feb)
So after March 1st 2018, if a player drops below 70% they effectively drop out of the yearly table. I will put something in place on the sheet that shows the percentage of participation. It will be based on "number of selections", so GO-LIVE days effectively will count as 3 days.
The scoring for YEARLY AND MONTHLY TABLES will be AVERAGE P/L for 2018 (We will stay with TOTAL P/L for 2017) with the 70% rule applying to both. To make admin easier, the 70% rule will only be applied to the MONTHLY TABLE on the last day of the month. (Ie. Those with less than 70% participation that month will be removed from the MONTHLY LEADER BOARD on the last day)
This is easier for us to facilitate scoring as effectively no-one with have their position as "N/A".
Hopefully the above changes will negate the problems we have facilitating the 70% rule without being as harsh as saying that "NO SELECTION" = a £1 loss as other NAPS LEAGUES do, whilst being "fair" to the guys who post NAPS nearly every day.
By putting the new rules for 2018 out there now, everyone will know how things stand and can then decide whether they want to participate.
I hope you agree that this is a fair "middle" ground.
Many thanks,
G
P.S. MISTY has suggested separating JUMPS and FLAT seasons, but it's too much work to do at this stage. What I may consider is having a JAN 1st - JUN 30th Table and then start again fresh on JULY 1st until DEC 31st, so "six monthly" tables instead of yearly, as it will be easier to implement at "YEAR END."
This would potentially "renew" peoples interest after six months if they are not doing that well, as a year is a long time to be at the foot of the table. Anyhow that is a topic for discussion as the new year approaches.
